I have a vr wagon and am considering putting in the doors 10"s and 6.5"Quarts the 10s would be the midbass. my question is has anyone here done it before, what would be the benifits, what if any brands make 10s as mids or can i just use a pair of clarion 10s i already have?

Cheers Travis

also would there be a problem associated with weight in the doors maybe making them sag?

dood 10 inch mids?
too much bass man. ur rta reading would have the biggest hump in it, and you would have the hardest time tuning your sys.
commies are bad enough
just use an eight if you have to. r u using splits or guides
you would have to run a million watts to your tweets and mids just to keep up thats if u could get it 2 sound good
yes to Q.2 weight would b an issue not because the doors would "sag" but inertia would try and throw the speaker out of the door every time u closed it,u would be giving your mounting screws a hard time and then theres fatigue on the door skins etc etc
8s are plenty big dood

10" Midbass is very large to fit into any vehicle. I have 6.5" in mine and have installed 8's into a couple of others and they play well for almost every music style.

8" play low (i had them at rolling off around 50htz on a gentle 6db slope) and a good 8 will handle a very reasonable amount of power. Also doesn't have quite the same problems RE weight for the doors and mounting scfrews that some others have mentioned.

My advice, try and find a car with a reasonable set of 8" mids up front. If they have been installed reasonably well you should be pretty impressed with the sound they are putting out. It is best if you can seal the door up reasonably well, this will act similar to a sealed enclosure for the 8". If you go with a 6.5" you may wish to spend the time creating a small enclosure for it in the door, I have found the extra performance an enclosure offers is worth the time taken to build it in the long run.

You could put 10" midbass in the front doors if you wanted too and you could tune them just as well as 8's it not what you got it's how it's installed and tuned. Many IASCA competitors in the states who are regular winners use up to 12" midbass in the front of their cars so you can have big midbass drivers if they are set up right

but why would you want to put 10's in the doors it's not exactly practical is it. As craigt mentions the weight on hinges, drastic mods required to fit the driver, the lack of legroom with a 10" driver hanging off the door trim all conspire against doing it....sounds good in theory but I'm sure there are better ways to get better / more midbass than putting 10's in.

anyway who makes a ten inch mid bass or 12 for that matter
ive got 8s in the doors of my civic, thats plenty big
and even they werent designed for midbass duty there subs. but when you read the specs and look at the graph on the box they actually work better as a mid than a sub, go figure..
keith please shed some light on this subject now that you got me interested.

can anyone recomend a 8" that would be good for midbass use?

Dynaudio manufacture the MW-180, a 9.5" Midbass/Subwoofer. It has a flat response up to 400hz, has a mounting depth of only 75mm and weighs only 1.85kg. They also produce the MW-170 8" midbass driver, it is 78mm deep, weighs 1.3kg and is flat up to around 500hz. Hope this helps.
