hey guys.. i'm currently in the process of deadening my front doors, and the problem is i cant quite clean the insides of my doors properly. theres this compound, that feels like wax that always gets stuck there. i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or tips to cleaning up the doors properly?

also, i was wondering, if i stuck down duct tape or some other strong adhesive product on the doors before i lay down the deadener, would it affect its effectiveness greatly? this seems to be my last resort option if i cant get the doors cleaned up right.

any tips and suggestions welcome!!

this cleaning was discussed not so long ago.. try searching for sound deadening or soemthing similar.

anyways i reccomended CLR, worked well for me.. still a fair bit of elbow grease involved

use wax and grease remover and soak it till it comes off.
can be heard, but worth the extra effort.

Yep, cleaner waxes, WD40 and mineral turps should be able to get that stuff off. I'm guessing its some kinda rust protection?

I wouldn't recommend the duct tape, most duct tapes will come off. I think most sound deadening mats have a stronger glue.

go to any place that sells automotive paint. they will have wax and grease remover. best thing about this stuff is it doesnt damage your paint

I would have thought WD40 would have left a silicone residue, and the glue from the deadener wouldn't have stuck!!

I just did some work on my doors tonight and after trying many different products I found the best to get rid of the glue crap on mine and not touch the paint was eucalyptus oil. Pleseant smelling too.. hehe

Good luck

WD40 will leave a residue, but that is easy to clean up with a bit of soap or turps. I'd recommend a good dishwasing liquid like Dawn, it removes all the residue and leavs the surface perfect to glue stuff on to.
