Hey Guyz! I currently have a Pioneer 12" and a Response Amp that I haven't even installed yet, but I'm already planning an upgrade in the next couple of months!
I have pretty much decided on a DD2012 as the sub. This was based on comments made here, and as I live in Tassie I don't have the opportunity to sample many other subs, so recommendations here are pretty much my only option.
Now I'm wondering what sort of Amp to power it with. Currently I have a Response 4x100, but I assume that I am probably going to need something a little more SQ focussed, or would this amp work will with the DD.
I would like to have the sub/amp purchased for around $800 total, note that this is excluding the cost of the box, which I will most likely (try ) to build myself at some later stage.
I was after some suggestions! I was thinking maybe a Coustic Monoblock or maybe one of the Audison offerings if they are available around that price mark. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Don't mind going 'mainstream' such as Alpine etc. but would probably prefer something a little bit different. Don't know what I should do with the Response amp! Maybe use it to power the splits, not sure yet! Suggestions with regards to that would be appreciated!
Cheers...Mitch

Okay man...Amplifier...Whatever you do...don't get something too extravagent because for the DD2012...that wouldn't be too good. I would say go with your instincts...my Pyramid pushes my subs to +9 dbls just on the amp itself...that's the power frequency...it pounds my entire house from outside. I also feel that if you want to go something good...wait what kind of car you putting this in? Because that's gonna be a necessity to the decision process!

As you might be able to see in my sig, the setup is going in a 91 Camry! It is quite a sizeable boot; there are no split fold seats, ski port etc. or anything like that (if indeed it matters at all). I was thinking maybe a sealed box for SQ however I've heard that these subs are also suited to ported. Was thinking about maybe an Audison LRx 2.150 or something similar to that!

Good point on the uhh...Camry...hehe...I would say go with an Audison...and stick to what you know...get a capacitor for it...so you have that little extra urge of power...and make it all turn out for the best...as for the box...ugh...not positive on that one...I had my two Orion 400 Watt Cobalts in a Sealed Box..then I ported it myself...and it sounded thousand times better...so try both versions of a box!

And in addition, why woudn't going for something extravagent (if it is within my budget, whatever this extravagency may be ) be in the best interests for the amp? I've read on these forums that these subs will take ample power well beyond their stated specs all day long! Just curious...

See that's the thing buddy...if you're gonna go extravagent...be sure you get a capacitor to go with that extravagance...it will help a lot. I mean if it's in the budget...do it...definitely...!!!hehe

Anyone else got any suggestions.
Was talking to some mates at the pub tonight and have re-assessed my situation. Tossing and turning now between a PG 12" Titanium DVC and the DD, but will most likely still purchase another amp. Was thinking of power the PG's DVC's off the Response (660w to the sub) and using the Audison to power my front stage (Hertz 6.5" components). Then the only thing left to upgrade would be a better sub amp (monoblock) or something similar to that. The main reason for my change is that I've read the Response aren't too good for splits. So bascially, will still get a 2 channel amp (heavily looking at the SRx 2.150) to provide power to the splits, and use the Jaycar in the meantime for the sub! Or should I just stick with the DD and the monoblock?

capacitor is wank value, no real benifit. Just make sure your electrical system is up to the task.

exactly, there has never been any evidence that a cap can help out in a car audio system, SPL competitors have actuly said it lowers there output!

use the jaycar its all u need
I dont know much about the 2000 series subs. They seem pretty good btu no where near the same as the 3500series but they are double the price.
Definitely the best amp to get would be the coustic 400wrms monoblock. If you ptu both cars on the meter it would be as loud if not louder than the jaycar 4x100.
Not to mention its class D and uses far less power.
Go the coustic better sound quality and volume, also looks a hell of a lot better. for $450 its a bit expensive but definitely worth it

The 2012 will easily handle it's rated power of 500Wrms, so don't skimp on an amp.
Look at the new Boston amps, I've never heard such controlled power or the Dragsters, they offer great power and quality for the $$, they're all Italian made.

The Coustic is not expensive; in fact it is within my spending limit. I have heard some good things about this amp, I might look in to it further.
