Hi all, I am in the process of installing a Phoenix Gold M50 amp and Boston splits in a friends car... unfortunately, the amp doesn't have internal cross-over. So, I guess I will need a capicitor or something. I want to run the splits from about 100-110hz and up.. then the Boston passive cross-over will do the rest, because they sound horrible running full-range. What do I need???
Thanks, any help would be appreciated!

Does your friend's HU not have a hp filter?
Maybe his sub amp has hp filtered outputs.
If not a simple in-dash subwoofer control/crossover/equaliser would do the job.
Passive crossover at 100Hz need fairly large (read expensive)inductors and capacitors and also tend to suck up a bit of power.

your friend want to sell the PG..? check my PM.
anyway, i also got a Soundstream tri-mode Xover.. basically hook it up to the m50 and u can run a low passed sub and high passed front stage... i bought it for the M50 i have but my m50 has been unused for 3 years coz i cant find a use for it..
let me know if ur friend is interested in the Xover (similar price to buying the caps etc to make ur own HPF) or selling the M50

they shouldn't soung bad, its just they wont handle that much power, although the speaker trying to play 20-40HZs may rattle the door much more without making an bass themselves..

They sound good, nice and full, but they just won't handle much power...

A capacitor (or any passive crossover) won't work very well at around 100hz due to the impedance curve..
If the amplifier does not have a high pass filter and you need one, then I'd recommend getting an external active (often referred to as electronic) filter.
