Full Version: SQ Setup?!? Rear Fill?

Well here's the deal. I'm getting a pair of Image Dynamics HLCD's with a 6" midbass driver. These are available in 2 ohm and 4 ohm models...

I will be pulling out the amps, HU, and subwoofer out of my present car(see info on signature).

My amp the RF500x is capable of
62.5 W X 4 @ 4 Ohms RMS
125 W X 4 @ 2 Ohms RMS
250 W X 2 @ 4 Ohms Bridged RMS

I have 2 options:
1)Bridge the channels and feed the HLCD components(rated at 150W RMS), so I get the 4ohm set.
2)Or I get the 2 ohm set, run it of 2 channels. And feed the other 2 channels to a pair of Kicker Resolution 6's for rear fill.

so hey, What do you think? I need opinions...

Equalization will be done by a pair of Audiocontrol EQT's or a Kicker KA30. Both are 30 band 1/3 octave eq's.

Kit

I think that rear fill is not a good idea for a SQ car - I'd rather have a well imaged front stage.

And I'd keep things nice and easy at 4 ohms.

Da'flea.

i would argue that rear fill does have a place in a good SQ car *if* used wisely. the only reason i'd add rear fill is to widen and raise the sound stage edges, which is something that is hard to do otherwise (the rainbow effect is a common thing in cars).

that said, those HLCD's are some high end gear and you wouldnt want to pollute them with substandard rear fill.

try without the rears first off, if the imaging doesnt satisfy, then add them.
