Hey guys,
Just looking for a nice amp to run my splits. I have been looking at the Audison amps and they look the goods. Just wondering if it is worth the money upgrading from the LRx to the VRx range.
Also how much power can they take? I was looking at the LRx 2.500, would this be too much power? Or if it was worth it, the VRx 2.150 or 2.250?
Also if there are other amps out there that are better or can be recommended please let me know. Budget is $600 - $2000.

Mr_Bob runs his off a VRx 2.150. Competition winning combo there.
If you don't want to spend to much money I'm sure a LRx 2.250 would do the job quite well.

personally i'd like a bit more power than the 110WRMS that the VRx2.150 puts out. it's loud, but you can never have enough power.
if you want the 2.150 i'll sell to ya. so i can add more and get the VRx2.250!

Audison amps are awesome quality and design but $600 is a big difference to $2000. If you were going for the best amp you can buy than spend closer to the top of your budget, it will save in the future when you wonder why you didn't get the amp you wanted in the first place. (I think we've all been there more than twice )
The focal speakers are power hungry and i have had some running much hotter than the specified rating which i think gives them more head room for midbass reponse at a lower volume setting.

You could run an LRx 2.500 ( 2 x 200 W/RMS ) and it will deliver the SQ and power you expect.
RRP $799 !

What about an ARC Audio amplifier. They make three ranges with various power outputs. I am working on competitive pricing now and have samples in the air from the USA at the moment. Why not try something different?

I own a set of the 165 W3's and have found they handle quite a lot of power, a lot more than the 100rms or so they are rated at. Once you get the midbasses moving i have found that to drive them nicely and have a little headroom i would suggest 200rms per side is a minimum.
I am running one Phoniex Gold 2150 bridged running each side midbass and midrange, and 50rms to each tweeter to give 400rms per side, with the amp gains on minimum in a semi active setup. Work very nicely but is probably more than you need.
One 2150 per side would give around 350rms and that would be heaps. You can pick them up for around $400ea and they have good specs and look good as well.
Final thought what ever happened to the Crossfire 602. Was an awesome amp that had been tested to deliver 235rms per side or 770rms bridged into 4ohms. That could be had for around $600 new and would probably do nicely if you were looking for just one amp.

Crossfire 602s don't have high pass filters and the low pass are fixed at 70, 100 or off.
At least mine does..

That's true. I owned one a while ago but had forgotten about no high pass. Oh well, easy enough to fit with a simple cap in line. With the 6" midbass i have found that they play quite low anyway. Depending on vehicle and how hard you drive them i would run down to about 50-60htz, with a steep slope slightly higher with a lighter slope.
Does Crossfire have a new equivilant for this amp, maybe that would do?

Hold that thought, I might have to take you up on that offer. I think your setup is great, that is why I am kind of following in the same footsteps. I also am looking at getting a 12" Brahma. What box is yours currently runnning in?

That is what I am looking at getting. But the main question is, is it worth upgrading to the VRx? They will probably be running passive for a fair while so SQ wise am I missing out on anything by not getting the VRx?

Where can I find out more info about these and what price range are we looking at?

Never enuf power i say!
My mate has got Focal K2's and is running them off the LRx 2.500! 'Slightly' over-powered but sounds very precise and accurate, & goes VERY loud. They do handle quite a bit of power.
