While its been mentioned in a few other threads, i thought i might as well start one just for this topic
The way i see it, the only possible way to get SQ comps up and running, and create a successful SQ scene is to have support from dealers. Dan has already mentioned this elsewhere, but support from manufacturers/distributors isnt enough, we need the actual dealers and stores around the country to be behind this.
For a truly successful comp scene we need dealers to be actively holding regular competitions, and to also get past the dealer rivalry that exists in many areas. If possible his means dealers jointly holding comps (to remove apparent dealer bias) or even better, to alternate in hosting comps (but using the same judges).
And i guess that's where we come in. Both in encouraging dealer support to host such competitions and also to design and implement the rules. The second bit i think is covered nicely with the CAASQ rules (which, of course, are still quite new and evolving as far as i see it). So i guess we have to get involved in actively drumming up dealer support!
We can talk and debate all we want, but SQ wont be revived unless we actually revive it by having comps. It seems to me that potential competitors are there, but comps (and currently widely dispersed CAASQ judges) are not.
Hope that rambling made sense, i kinda wrote it out while doing other work

Good call...
I was speaking to George from GCCS on the weekend and he mentioned that it's a shame that SQ has gone so dead and he wished that it was revived. Would have liked to have talked to him more, but had to go to uni.
Anyways, at least there is one dealer in Bris-Vegas that wants what we all want.

From a Sydney perspective, I think the two most SQ-based outlets would be the boys in Woollahra (if I could spell it...the dudes next to the Tigers club) and Fairfield Car Radio.
Out of all the Sydney stores I have been to, which has been the majority of them, these guys have been the purists of SQ and the mainstays of the industy. However, getting them involved would be something else entirely...
Best chance would be the Lifestyle store in Bella Vista/Norwest Business Park, as they have a large carpark (albeit shared with other businesses.) Yet they seem to be newcomers, there is a lot of knowledge at this store, carry excellent brands (Nak, Soundstream, ADS, Dynaudio), and eager and enthusiastic to become involved (eg, their heavy advertising, and SPL Barina combo) so this is quite possible.

The basic consensus from the feedback I've been getting is that the stores are waiting on a format to run with....

A thing is stores need to see some kinda return for running a comp(spl or SQ) in the way of sales etc, if no reture for the outlay for a comp then the bean counters find it hard to justify it.

The entry fee should at least allow them to break even cost wise...and the dealers can hold the comps in conjunction with sales. Thats what happens when any store here has a comp (SPL though) and they get a ton of people attending.

As long as they sell the gear that is winning comps then they would do well but if the gear they sell isnt upto par I dont think it would be worth their time.
They would prob need extra staff involved on the day soo extra wages etc soo a ton of people attending wouldnt be enough unless they will to spend as well as watch.
