Has anyone used a jaycar 2x150 for their front stage?
Im after cheap power for my splits, as i want them to go very loud. Is there really that much difference between a jaycar 2x150 and a higher quality amp?
I blew one tweeter due to cliiping as they can easily take 200wrms so i couldn't really pick any distortion.

What splits are you intending to use in conjunction with the amp?

Im running DLS Magnesium midbass drivers rated at 100wrms and Vifa XT25 tweeters rated at 140wrms.
I'll have the woofers HP'd at 100hz, but in the end i plan to run the woofers high passed at 150hz and run a 8inch sub upfront

I ran 2 channels from a Jaycar 4x100 for my front splits. They went really really loud but the SQ on them werent too good im my opinion. The amp didnt last very long as I ended up selling it and putting in a bit more cash and going for something with a bit better sound quality. I suppose it all depends on what you want to achieve out of your system. If you want a really nice SQ system I wouldnt be going with one of these amps for SQ. Just my opinion though.

jst slightly off the topic...
what bout using a jaycar 2 x 150 for running SQ subs
wouldf u go for a quality amp to punch out quality punches?
or is bass not really worth the extra $$$ spent on an SQ amp

i use one of the 2x150s for my front stage...plenty of power and the SQ is just fine...i'm sure it's not "top" quality sound but it's still very good and doesn't have to work very hard to get loud!

Well i bought a coustic 4x60wrms, so now i have 240wrmsx2 (480wrms total) for my front stage.
The difference from the jaycar 2x84 and the coustic is amazing. The jaycar was **** in comparision, im very happy now.

what about a good 2nd hand amp? theres usually a few good SQ amps floating around...and the good ones usually get looked after!

yeah i heard a jaycar 2x150 hooked-up to a type-r alpine the other day... i wasn't exactly blown away by its performance. made it sound pretty flabby compared to his older RF amp. (prolly damping factor). has plenty of balls tho!

You don't really believe that do you?
If these extra harmonics due to clipping killed your tweeter, surely you would have heard them?
PS, I seriously doubt your tweeters can handle 200w.rms

Ok they were distorting a bit i thougth it was just the amp was had high THD.
and my tweeters are rated at 140wrms nominal. 400watts Max Long term and 950 watts Max Short term. They even have a vented Pole piece haha. They'll take 200wrms easily
