Full Version: Alpine V12? V-Power? Other amps?

Heya, I've got some Focal PolyGlass 165V 6.5" splits, I had them powered from a Alpine V12 MRV-T320 2x80W amp until it was stolen.

I'm looking into new amps at the moment, and spotted these little amps:
http://ecominet2.alpine-usa.com/pls/admn/i...y=110&p_main=10
They're quite cheap at a local car audio store.. and i was considering running one of them for my left focal split and another for my right, they run 140W RMS x 1 @ 4ohm bridged...

Would these amps run my splits well or should I look into maybe a V12 alpine or an Audison amp for almost twice the price? I'm after a nice quality sound, would the V-Power amp be much less in quality than the others?

I'm on a tight budget, but would be willing to stretch for a decent increase in SQ.

Thanks,
Tom

IMO, I would spend the extra money! Sorry to hear about your loss, those things always hit the hip pocket when it comes to replacing your gear, believe me!

I think that the Alpine would be a good choice, but you really are comparing two different classes of products. The Audison will be worth every cent, and should deliever superior SQ. But then again, it all comes down to budget. But a lot of people don't really think in terms of the long run; do you really want to replace the Alpine amp, when its residual value had diminished, with a more expensive amp, such as the Audison because the Alpine just doesn't hit the spot! IMO, its worth saving for two months longer, or however long it takes, to get to a stage where your system will keep you content for quite some time! What exactly is your budget? Good luck!

umm.... There was a comparison done b/w a cuostic amp and a HR100 (audiosons flagship amp) and the results showed that nobody could pick the difference.
Decifer: what you need to look for, is what do you need in an amp. 1ohm, 2ohm, 4ohm?? Do you need adjustable x-overs or will fixed suffice?? Rated power at the ohmage you will be using the amps at. E.g. Audioson do 500wrms at 1ohm but at 4ohm they produce 100wrms compared to an //Alpine giving 100wrms.
Basically if the power is the same then audiable difference in sound is minimal. If the ///Alpine is chaep, you like it, and it does everything you want, then buy it!
If you are looking at upgrading then dollar for dollar speaker upgrades will beet amps upgrades any day.
Good luck with your purchase mate

It was actually a Avantgarde amp, not a Coustic

And we picked difference! just we picked the wrong one! hahaha

hehehe... Yeah you know what you mean, the power of the amp, and it's fetures are more important then how much it costs, or what it can do at .5 ohm if that is not required.
P.S. decifer I am invited to a closed house sale, with the //Alpine distributers and other top audio brands, if you would like me to pick something up for you and send it back to SA let me know mate.

Hey dude.
Ive just picked up an MRV-T420... bit more expensive than the ones you looking at, but its wat I use to power my splits. Its throws out approx. 130wrms x 2 and is pretty sexy (only coz i have all Alpine V12 amps... hehe

But yeah, if money is a factor, I'vehear the V-Power ones and they work a treat also!
