I'm looking into getting a eq/crossover for my system, but i'm more trained/experienced with 31 band rack rounted mofo's. I was looking at one of these, but yeah tad expensive. Most dont have RCA in/out and i would also need a inverter/**** load of space.
I dont realy know what to look for when it comes to car audio.
I see that there is a audio control eql forsale, but i have no idea.

The EQL will do what you want, 2 x EQT's will do it better 30band of eq both sides.
You wont need a invertor, but it is $1000 for two, but they are worth $1600, and thats even if you can find them.
But a EQL will do a nice job as well, for a fracton of the cost.

yeah most EQ's from companies like audiocontrol, phoenix gold, lanzar etc, run straight off 12v. 13-15 bands is all you really need to tweak a system, though 30 band has more resolution and will tackle any problem. just make sure you have the time and patience to set 'em up

You can always get the rackmounts power supply converted over to 12V... don't know what they did for RCA's though? But I'm sure that I've seen it been done.

yeah the EQ your thinking of is the old 'Alesis EQ30' i think it was called, it was basically a 240v EQ used by musicians, that car audio buffs realised would be good in the car. they converted over the power supplies to 12v and away they went, though not many people doing it these days (with 12v EQ's and those built into HU's widespread), but i dunno about the RCA problem either.

the RCA problem isnt realy a problem, its quite easy to make up a Rca-> XLR converter.
space is the main issure, Not exactly a large amount of room in a hatch, esp for a double rack digital EQ/crossover
IF i could afford it i proberly would use a pro audio style digital EQ, like a Klark Teknik DN9340 Helix *drool*
Which is a digital:
30 band EQ
12 band parmetric
Delay available in Time (milliseconds, microseconds) and Distance (feet / inches or metres)

i picked up an Audiocontrol DQT (30 band eq + 2 parametrics), but unlike the mono EQT: it's stereo and it's digital which gives you the benefit of saving 8 memories. the only problem is they take a while to set up because you have to click 2-3 buttons to navigate to the band you want to change.
cost me $1200 new. and it was stereo (you could change left and right independantly)
Audiocontrol are putting out a remote control for it soon too, if thats important.
also keep an eye out for RockFord Symmetry (they come with a 14band eq, but you can get a 28band expansion card). recently bought a second hand one in perfect condition for $800, including a matching line driver.
regards

Why dont you figure out if you have a problem before you try an fix it ?
I have a mega $$$ EQ and have it set flat as my system seems to sound OK without any EQ. EQs are not mandatory. Why not spend money on better speakers etc and then see if all that fails, then find out if an EQ may help rather than get an EQ assuming you need one. Dont put the horse before the cart.

haha, a laborious but worthwhile task (and mine will need to be re-tuned soon too), but it does take some time so you may have to wait until mine is all back in - which thankfully should be within the next few weeks but my advice is install everything, listen to it for a few weeks raw and get a feel for what is missing, if anything, and then undertake the tuning process with the aid of a response plot.
