Ok,
This is my system at the moment. Would like advice whether it is more towards sq or spl? Cause i have no idea.
Head unit:Nakamichi cd-35z
Front speakers: Dyns system 240
Front amp: Zapco Competition Z400CL
Sub: Kicker solobaric S12L5
Sub amp: Rockford fosgate monoblock 500.1

In my point of view the subs seem to be more towards spl but the front speakers more towards sq. So what are your opinions guys?

One it depends how you have your sub box built, sealed, ported or...? if ported then more to SPL IMO

Second IMO the whole system capable of both depends how u set it and tune it
bob
ported boxes can retain excelent sq

EEk here i go again, posting in sq
Mr_Bob
your system isn't defined by what components are in it.
it's defined by what you are trying to acheive.
if you design your subbox to make the most amount of bass possible, then i'd say SPL,
if it's designed to sound nice, then SQ.
it's all about where you focus your attention.

my system is focal utopia 3 way's, 12" brahma, and audison amps.
is it SQ?

i'm also running 2220WRMS in total...
personally i don't care if it's SPL or SQ, i like my music very loud, but i don't want to sacrifice SQ.

p.s. ported/sealed doens't define SQ or SPL.
alot of drivers will sound as good or better in a correctly tuned ported box.

Well said!
tuneman
your list shows that you have the potential for both given proper tuning.
you can have sq cars that are capable of more that 150db
but if you wanna know' i would say that a single 12 is not what i would class as a spl based system

Sorry dude, been in bed since wednesday and havent sent zapco incase you were wonderin why it was running late. i'll try and get it off tomorrow if i'm feeling up to it.
harris_r31
yeh as others have already said, its all about the tune
craigt
my friend greg clarke once built a system for a guy in Queensland in a magnum vs ute, it had multiple soundstream rubicon amps, from memory 8 15" cerwin vega stroker subs in an infinate baffle (free air) set up,eights in the doors and horn drivers built into the dash, this car was set up for SQ. but was loud anyway
so as above, its all in the tune dood.

Olie: Sure no prob haven't got my car yet anyway. Should be getting it end of this week so should be arrive just in time for installing.

Thanks everyone for their advice. Will inform on how system sounds when everything is built and in its place.
