Full Version: What to use, Deck or amp LPF??

I am in the middle of building a SQ system, and I have a little problem that has it's pro's and con's.

I have a Pioneer DEH-P7350 head unit, and 2 Audison amps. I is a Vrx 2.250 with a HL24 extension module, and the other is a Vrx 1.500.

On the head unit I can LPF at 50,80 and 125Hz at -18db/oct slope, and has sub volume control +12dB/-12dB,

Or on the HL24 i can have a variable LPF between 50Hz and 110Hz (I think) with a -12dB/oct.

The bonus of the headunit is the sub volume control, and the -18db/oct slope.

The bonus of the amp is the variable crossover point, and most likely better circuitry.

Which is the better LPF crossover option for a purely SQ system?

Sorry for the long post.

Personally I would implement both lowpass filters to allow a greater filtering of any frequencies above the lowpass point i.e. you would have basically got a higher cascade of frequencies above the filter point. So for example cascading both filters will result in a 30dB per octave slope
Ole'
120hz on h/u
85hz on Amp

does a good job

Sorry guys forgot to mention. To use the HL24 it needs a full range input from the deck, unfiltered, then the crossover HPFilters for the fronts and supplies a RCA output low pass filtered which becomes the input to the 1.500.

Or a sub output from the deck to the 1.500 utilising the deck crossover.
