The Hertz are good, or spend a little more and get Boston Acoustics FS series.
Total Recoil are great but take a little fiddling with the crossover construction to get them sounding their best.

Hertz HSK165's i would have to say are a sure thing around the $300 mark.
Pretty good all round speaker, they go loud, aweosme Sound quality and heaps of bass
Cheers,
Ne Idea where I can source these Hertz from the Wed Audio Direct web page doesn't seem to have them listed ne more??

I'd say, though I am not positive on this, that the Hertz splits will be back up on the online store soon; it has just been through an update and the owners are currently in the process of relisting all available products. I HOPEFULLY assume that Hertz will still be available!
Cheers...Mitch

Boston FS60's IMO sound the best for the $300 mark, honestly, take a CD to a store that sells both, and you'll see yourself, bostons piss on everything.

You could always have a listen to a set of Infinity Reference splits... I picked mine up for 320 and they are really raelly nice speakers...
But as a few have said, let ur ears be the judge..

id suggest Boston FS series splits too (i just picked up a set for my rear surround speakers).
they are 'below' the rally series, but in my opinion give up nothing in sound quality. i used to use the FS50 midrange as my centre channel speaker and it was quite good, and have retained the FS series tweeters for ambients also, which are nice. the rally's have better power handling if anything.
i'd also recommend an EQ for these speakers (for ANY speakers really) the FS series have pronounced midrange which creates a bit of colouration, i find if you cut them at around 300hZ by about 6dB or so it cleans them up beautifully.
so yeah listen to the FS series, a bargain for the sound quality you get.

The OCtane R Splits look good for $200 from WAD. But whats a bit unsual, is that it has a 18dB/octave Crossover slope however this is produce by an inline cap.

I got my FS60's for $260 in Sydney. They are the only part of my stereo I have never changed. Bargain.

well, my Alpine SPR-175A's were $275 and im very happy with them but im sure you could get better.

I would have to also go with the SPR-175A's there a damm fine speaker for what your paying for them, they blow the PG tantrums out of the water and everything else that I have heard in that price range.
Also take a look at the JL VR600 series splits there around $370rrp but you can pick them up for under $300 at places like JB.
Your better off going around and having a listen becasue everyone elses tastes are different, what I absolutly love you might hate, remember were only giving you opinions on what we like and what tastes we have, yours might be different.

I will vouch for the JL Audio VR600....u can get them for around $300 if u bargain (i got mine for just over $200 ) and for the money they r an awsome sounding speaker....they arnt too deep either which makes installing that little bit easier.... i have found the tweeter to be a little harsh if u r hard on the gains but set them up reasonably and u should be sweet...
They say the power handling is 50wrms but i have mine running off a stereo bridged Apline 4ch with just ova 100wrms a side and they have never complained

For your budget, I say go for either a set of infinity reference series splits or the JL Audio VR600’s.
A friend of mine has a pair of the infinity’s in the front of his VR, and I reckon they sound awesome, if a lacking a bit in the midbass section….
Either way, they’re great splits

Is there anywhere in Sydney that has a similar showcase?
I want to hear a good range of splits and subs with various amps. Who in Sydney has gear on display?
Having said that, has anyone compiled a 'Vendor List' for car audio gear?
Thanks

Hey SNM,
The hertz speakers are back up on the online store now.
I listened to them at DB Fever last weekeend, they tend to be more bassy and for the SPL ppl, as you said ya wanting SQ, there were also the Phoenix Gold, these are the same price as the hertz around the $300 mark. I listened to them as well and they seemed to pick up more on the voices.
I am going for the Hertz Hi Energy HSK165, splits for my front, but as most others say, find a store and go in and listen for yaself.
Cheers,
Nitro_Neon.

Heya, I've been looking for a place that I can audition Boston and Infinity next to the focal splits... Can you be any more specific on where the store is? "Car Gear" isn't in the phone book at all - where on Magill Road is it?
Thanks guys,
Tom
