Ok Everyone,
I have some CASHOLA to spend on upgrading my system and im looking for some suggestions or changes etc. This is whats presently in place.

HU: Pioneer deh-p9450mp
F/s: Boston acoustics Pro 6.5 Being fed 2 x 180W @ 4 Ohm
Sub: JL Audio 12W3V2-D2 being fed 600w @ 4 Ohm
Amps: 2 X Audison SRx2s

Have $1500 to spend what options do i have.

Thx
Hutch
Your system seems well balanced from an equipment point of view, upgrading any one component probably won't bring enourmous gains. If it was me I would install a 30 band eq or similar and spend the rest on sound deadening and having the system tuned by someone with good ears.
craigt
not much change left over out of 1500 for a 30 band eq but yes definatly do lots of sound deadening, the difference is amazing!(its not just salesmans talk it realy does make a huge difference!)

an eq may or may not make a difference to your system - who knows... at any rate you've got 13 freqs to nip and tuck inside your headie so an external unit may not be needed.

the gear you've got sounds like a nice bag of tricks. sound deadening would be a good bet methinks.

i spose really it comes down to what you want to achieve with your 1500. are you happy with your system? do you want a different sound or do you just want to refine whats there? there are plenty of options.

oooorrr.... you could rice your install up with lots of ccfls and decorative trim bits and stuff! hehe

I Have heaps of sound deadening already installed (stinger roadkill pro) what i would like to achieve is better bass, was toying with the idea of getting 2 X 10" subs instead of the single 12, the front stage is perfect,i feel im lacking something from the bass (punch?). Thats why i have asked for suggestions. My car is a Late model commodore so big cabin.

thx for the replies

Seeing that its in a Commo (like me), 2x10's wont really do much for you..

My suggestion is to get another sub, like your current one and an extra Audison amp so you have the 3..

That should keep under the $1500 budget you have set.. May have to upgrade wiring tho..
Maz
I agree with damo. Get another 12inch. Two 10's will not be loud enough in a commodore.

As the subs are Dual 2ohm, wired in parlalel series they produce a 2ohm load. A 2ohm stable monoblock, like the alpime M1000 would be awesome.

It wouldn't use much more electricaty as your current amps cause its class D. Yet u'll gain around 6db with a second sub and double the power.

if your lacking bass dont go from 1 12" to 2 x 10"....ull loose base, the bigger the sub the lower the bass sound.
poeee
I know what ya mean. My mate has a VT and his bass really isn't anything special at all. He's got a full earthquake system, with a single 12". So another 12W3V2 and another audison SRX2S to power it, really should fill in the gap.

Its not as simple as 2 10s wont be better than 1 12. If you went to 2 W7s and increased power to suit 2 10s would probably blow your single w3 away. Its about moving air and so excursion is as important as surface area.

Anyway Id suggest you look at some long excursion subs before assuming anything about sub size. If JL is not doing it then maybe another brand or different model JL is the go. Best bet is to find a car that does what your looking for and then do what they are doing, provided cars are similar type(size)

Depends what you're looking for.

If you want better/more bass add a second sub or upgrade. The intensity of a DD 9515 would scare you after that JL, you could add more power to it later (if you needed it LOL).

If you want to improve the definition, image and staging add the Boston PRO 4" mids and upgrade from 2 to 3 way crossovers. Then build some kicks or other custom install for the mids/tweets. Better still grab a whole new 3 way set and use your old 6.5s for rear fill. Talk about over kill!

An EQ is the last thing I'd add, if I did I'd go for the new Audio Control DQT, full 30 band dual mono design, along with additional parametic control and EIGHT memories!

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the replies, this i what im going to do with the cash, sell the JL 12W3, buy 2 boston pro 12.5LF's and also get a LRx2.500, goin to run the splits of it, and have a SRx2s for each sub.

What ya's reckon
yes im going to audition the subs first if i can find someone with them.
DD Phil
If you want more bass and have limited space, Bostons are a good choice.

that is a very good idea and will sound great

dont worry you wont be dissapointed with Boston Pros although still try them out if you can.

As far as SQ is the main goal, a new pair of speaker @ costom made passive crossover will do the trick. a pair of scanspeak 18W-8545 woofer and a pair of morel suprimo tweeter is the perfect match
claf_43
my two Boston Pro 10" subs go loud enough in commodores
