I was looking to update my install, and was wondering would this be considered an upgrade. As i will lose around 25 rms with the audisons, but what will i gain from them? I was thinking of using two to power a semi-active dyn sys340. Anything else out there in this price range with audisons reputation that i should look at?

As this question is posted in the Audiophile's forum it is fair to assume that SQ is your priority in your new amplifier purchase.
If you can, hang off for the December issue of Fast Fours magazine, where I have reviewed 10 two channel amplifier for under $1000 in a sound quality test and review.
Unfortunately I cannot reveal the results of this test prior to the release of the mag, but I think this would help you make an informed decision from some of the commonly available amps on the market.

Thanks Marc, will look out for that. My aim is more towards SQ. Do the Lrx seires have a similar presence as the Vrx series? Any more comments?

IMO Sound Quality is that of similar nature between LRx & VRx, however the VRx offers FAR more flexibility in crossovers and tuning parameters than LRx. I also believe the VRx has a more stable power supply.

So i a ssume that if i run external crossovers and tuning from PXA H700, that i can achieve results somewhat close to that of a Vrx? or is this expecting too much?

One of the main differences between a LRx and VRx is that a VRx uses a dual power supply, that is, one for the + rails and one for the - rails.
As such it can be run at 1 ohm in stereo and 2 ohm bridged - LRx is 2 ohm stereo 4 ohm bridged.
The rest all relates to flexability of opperation.

They will only be used for splits. Has anyone used an old V12 and upgraded to a Lrx or even a Vrx?

I have gone from V12's to Orion XTR's the difference is minimal if any. Remember that the V12 was Alpines top of the range and now are very good value for money. Paramatic Q, Variable x-overs, good looks If running splits then I can't see the benifits of the VRX or LRX when going into their 2ohm and 1ohm specs however if you are later going to use these amps as sub amp then a consideration for the audison must definatly be considered.

I believe the question was from V12 to Audison not Orion.
Many out there who have changed from V12 and other brands to the LRx claim such things as tighter sound better response etc.
So I do not subscribe to the "am amp is an amp" theory you seem to be leeding to.

Thats the thing. They are rated at 2 x 200 rms @ 12v aren't they? I've had conflicting reports, as u often do in this area. My smallest V12 is 2 x 225 @ 12v, but power isn't everything, right?

And when did you go from V12's to Audison????? My comparison was showing an upgrade from V12 to a SQ brand of amp. And Phil I wouldn't be preaching about posting only in threads that don't concern people, it not your style. And your first post....where was your comparison??? Just another chance for you to put the specs up AGAIN for audison .

All opinions are valued. Even if its upgrading from sometibg else to audison or upgrading from a V12 to a similar quality amp.
