Hey! I'm really getting sick of not being able to enjoy my daily driver due to sheer mind numbing bass that just never goes away. So i've pretty much decided that after this weekends comp it'll be my last SPL car until i can afford to have two different cars/setups...
So i've put up my 3 DD 12s and my D2 will be going up for sale over the next week...
What I need to know is how 'nice' this will sound and how it will be from a competitive approach:
Single Digital Designs 3515c sub - reason i'm going a 15" is that i still love bass and still want to be able to turn it up on a friday night and enjoy a good pounding... also i feel that the 15"s greater low end response will be a huge advantage when it comes to its life as a daily driver.
This will be running off an Audison LRX 1.400 monobloc - 900wrms approx.
what do you guys think? for the $$ should I look at something different? it'll be in a mitsubishi galant hatch. and i am looking towards being highly competitive by the end of next year - is this gear of a high enough caliber?
Front stage is pretty much destined to be dyn 3 ways... ive never heard anything that compares.
any advice would be great....

looks like it will be a nice setup.
only comment i'd make is if you are going to go with the 3515, go the system 360s rather than the 340s.

hi Numb...u don't want my a/d/s anymore....
i would said 2 x 12" a/d/s will give u better bass response than a single 15". The bass in the 12" will hit more tighter and more accurate if u compare to a 15" which i heard before could be blurish for some people. That's why in my past set-up i choose 3 x 12". I could have save money to go for a single 15" but i won't. I like how the bass hit tight and accurate on the 12".
That's why u seen in many competition around in the United States people used up to 5 x 10" in thier car. Because they want the bass to go loud and also want the accurate from the 10".

hey dude
i'm definately going to come around and have a look at the A/D/S
i just have never heard them before and have more faith in DD than any subwoofer on the market at the moment... i know that i like their 'sound'
although i havnt seen any DD SQ cars in australia...
I dont personally believe in 15"s being 'blurry' as I had 2 x 15s (PG's) a while back and they sounded lovely and tight/accurate.
that said, im keeping my options open and am looking at every possibility....

Don't let anyone tell you 15s can't hit hard and fast, one listen to our Civic will cure those misconceptions.
The funny thing is the single 3515 will probably play just as loud on a meter as the trio of 2012s, it's easier to get the box/location right with a single woofer.
We got 149dB in AJ's Prelude at 42Hz(!!) from a single 15 with a Boston GT28 (1250W), it sounds incredible.

i've heard a few bad things about the LRX 1.400
mainly that its a fairly 'weak' amp
id be battling to find an amp that'll put out ~1KW for around 1K thats high quality though.
so im thinking along the lines of keeping the D2
is it possible to get good SQ out of this amp? as many people say, amps are amps. without wanting to start this war again
could i do better for the price or should i just hang on to the sub amp i have atm and have some major headroom?

D2's and good SQ just don't go together

Numb: Is it me dude, or do you change your subs as often as you change your socks? Your worse than me
The 3515 seems like a good option, but for an sq setup would probably want to put in 8s up front to be able to keep up with a beast of a woofer the 3515 is

yeah i do change my system quite a bit, its been a very long yet steep learning curve to really find what sound is the sound that im looking for. if that makes sense...
its harder in w.a to find a 'good' system also as when i first started out there was bugger all when it came to choices/ranges available. 18 months ago, you had a choice of alpine, pioneer or kicker. (pretty much). now we have a HUGE range of products that equals what you lucky buggas in melbourne/sydney/qld have.
this is going to be my last gear change for a very long time, all i'll be doing is possibly going for a second amplifier next year so i can go one on each voice coil.
After a lengthy chat to Phil this morning, he's convinced me that after going for (the more expensive) but certainly better 9515, that i wont want to ever go back. I gotta say, with all the sh!t that Phil gets on here, 99% of it is undeserving, and i bet that of all the people who give him sh!t, none of them have dealt with him! He was certainly very very helpful to me.
So i've decided to go for:
DD 9515 Dual 2ohm, hook it up to a relay so i can switch between 1ohm at the amp and 4ohm at the amp as easily as Thus giving me the greater dampening factory/sq of a 4ohm setup when needed, and then being able to extract plenty of power when needed at 1ohm.
The amp will be a Boston Acoustics GT28. 1100wrms @ 2ohm (rated @ 12volt so it'll actually make the power it states it will once it gets in the car, unlike most amps out there), it is also 1ohm stable, but how much more power it produces at 1ohm i wont know until i get her
Amp will arrive on wednesday or thursday Sub unfourtunately not for a few weeks (waiting on stock).
All in all I think i've made the right move, it'll enable me to still go with SPL on weekends and keep my car with a 100% SQ enphesis when not in comp mode
thanks for all the help guys! i'll post pics as soon as everything is installed

I wouldn't say the LRx 1.400 is a weak amp. It sure got my magma moving. Never got a chance to get mine on the bench though as I just sold them.
