Full Version: Tweeters in a S15

Hello,
I know that this is another 'tweeter position' question but do you think it will be ok to flush mount the tweets in the plastic bit where the door lock/latch thing resides?
I've seen an install in a S15 housing utopia tweets there.. my concern is, it will fire straight to the other side of the car, would this hurt imaging or can it sound good ?
and would the time delay feature on my Alpine HU compensate/improve the imaging/staging ?

Im talking about Boston Pros by the way, or should i use the On-Axis mounting... anyone tried this also ??

Anyone heard both ? and preferred one position over the other?

Thanks
ix
i've heard focal polykevlar's (TN45 tweeter) in that position you describe in a s15 and i didn't find imaging too impressive.

TA could help, but why not try some other locations first? i didn't think the s15 kickpanels were a bad place to mount (to test first of course) them when i had a look

Agreed.
I have DDDrive splits in the front [from previous owner], with tweeter cut into door latch panel.
After pulling it out to have a look, I can see why it was done, as there is a circular flange to sit a tweeter into, BUT, the imaging is pretty damn awful.....can't wait to get rid of them and put some decent dyn's or something in the doors/kicks.

I've got my tweets placed there..for convenience I guess, and cos I was told based on the construction of the car it would be the easiest place to put them.

I probably don't know any better cos these are the first pair of splits i've owned, but I don't think they sound too bad at all. I guess i'm happy in my ignorant state hehe

Sxmad,

Yeah, that's why i wanted to place them there too
cos after taking the latch panel out there was a little tweeter thingomajig u talking bout...

I'm just gonna do the on-axis mount for my Bostons for now instead of cutting a panel and not sounding good...
and I'll probably get autoacoustics to mount the tweets in the kicks so its nice and neat...

F*#*#@$

ive mounted the tweets on axis mount.. and now.. (even after i tighten the screws on the tweet mount)

i cant turn it up too loud or with too much bass
cos the midbass cone hits the mount and makes a serisouly annoying farting noise...
the right side was doing it.. then i tightened it and its all good... and then the left started.. i tightened it its a bit better but... *sigh*
never ends!!!!

anyway....

Thats because tweeters are a factory option on the S15 in that position in Japan
