I'm looking at some new spilts atm. I'm leaning towards a set of Hertz Mille 6.5's. I'm wondering what else is worth looking at.

I don't like focals, so please anything else but those

Also I can't get access to a set of Mille's to listen to, could someone please give me an idea on what the tweeter sounds like ? Or if anyone knows of a place that sells Hertz in the Bris area with a set on a board that would be great.

I had a set of HSK 165's and they weren't too bad considering what they cost, the tweet and X-Over weren't all that crash hot though.

Cheers

Sorry I'm looking to spend > $1000. I looked at a set of dyn 240Mk II's and was pretty impressed.

you probably won't want to purchase anything you haven't auditioned, so definitely worth trying to audition those mille's before having them on your short list.

there should be a number of Qld retailers, or at least according to the RM Audio (distributor) website: RM Audio website

but indeed, the mille's are a top quality split setup and a worthy alternative to the likes of dynaudio.

other splits worth trying would be boston accoustic 'pro' splits, and diamond audio M6 (not sure on availability in qld). in the new year the 'made in israel' morel brand will return; their previous 'hybrid' series are excellent.

not to be dismissed are alpine's SPX-177A splits (RRP$699), which are top value.

but certainly don't just rely on other peoples' recommendations. worth searching high and low to audition your options, and preferably with them installed in a car, and not simply on a demo board.

good luck

I was at "Complete Car Sound" at enoggera a little while ago checking out some HSK's. Im pretty sure they had as et of Mille's splits in the cabinet (not in the demo board) but hey - if youre going to spend so much money on speakers, they m,ight let you hook them up and audition them. You can only ask i guess...

i was told by the rockford sales rep (paul, pretty nice guy)

the alpine spx series splits aren't made by alpine..but by someone else..

does anyone know who?

They are made by a company caled "Danish Sound Tech" - they also make Scanspeak, Vifa and Peerless.

Its quite common for speakers to be outsourced in SQ; the only ones which are made on-site are MBQuart (still in Germany despite Rockford Corp ownership,) Focal and Rainbow. I think Dynaudio maybe outsourced, but I am not 100%.

Danish Sound Tech also make Peerless if I'm not mistaken.

well..i think it makes a difference..same speakers..different label....

i would pick the cheaper one

if you really want to save some money and listen to the speakers, i'd come up to the Maroochy Car sound sale on sunday the 14th, from 10am till 3pm, they will give you a good deal, i got my morel hybrid's for half price and they are sweet.
