Me again...
Sorry about another "choose whats best" thread, but listening options are limited in the ACT.
System currently consists of Dynaudio front stage, arc audio amplification and IDMax sub.
Here is the list of Head Unit contenders - i'm after 2 pre-outs, less flash and more SQ. MP3 not an issue, nor is fancy DSP and EQ. I would really like to have Time Alignment if possible, but overall SQ more important. Please comment on SQ, skip resistance, etc..
In order of highest to lowest price:
Eclipse 8443 (when it arrives)
Nakamichi 400
Alpine 9815/9813
Clarion DRX9255
Clarion 835
I'm leaning towards the two clarion units, but worried about the lack of features on the 9255, even though i have only heard great things about them.
I'm so confused!! Any help would be appreciated - descriptions of how they sound, even if subjective, would help greatly.
Michael.

If you're getting a deck that has time alignment on it, then you're probably getting all the bells and whistles aswell..... that doesn't mean you ahve to use them!
Go the '9255!!

Sounds a crapload better than the Clarion though- my ears attest to that.
Perhaps look at bringing in the Denon DCT-R1, little brother to the famous DCT-Z1, available in black or silver/brushed aluminimum finishes. You are going top shelf; don't be limited by your territory or country, outsource
Good luck.

what's your budget?
alpine high-end HUs come into their own coz of the inbuilt processing, incl parametric EQ, TA and xovers. if your system requires fine tuning, then these features can gain that added bit of SQ.
however, i personally think there are nicer SQ decks around if you don't need those features. i don't know anything about the new eclipse deck, but the current model 8051/8061 HUs are superb, and would put that on your shortlist. and sure, clarion has always produced excellent SQ HUs.
i have yet to gain confidence in nak products. there midprice HUs have yet to have a solid reputation for top overall quality. but then i have never used one.
so i usually recommend eclipse for outright SQ, and alpine for top 'well-roundedness'.

Hmm did someone mention Dennon DCT-Z1
Denon DCT-Z1

Caliber DVD 835
Not saying they're the same headunit, just made by the same company, and both are high end sq headunits.

I dont usually stick to budgets, but...
$500-$1300.
Would rather spend around 700-800 to enable more $$ towards sound deadening and install. I think with head units that the law of diminishing returns is in place in the $700-1200 range...
I'm waiting for the new Eclipse 8443, but eclipse australia won't tell me when it's out..no one seems to know.
I'm leaning towards the Clarion 835, being a decent quality deck that can be had for around $650.

Except the Denon doesn't play MP3s or DVDs...or VCD or SVCD...
Could be chassis only, my bet.

Personally I'd go the Eclipse.. can't beat the SQ from those decks.
Except maybe that denon unit!
