[EDIT: The Alpine Amp has made way for the SRx3, and the Access 33A upgraded to the Polyglass 33V2 also the 9815 replaces the 9811]
Hi Guys & Girls!
I’m extremely new to the mobile audio scene (i.e. since about 6am this morning!)
First of all let me say this site and forums are a great resource for a guy like me hoo knows absolutely nothing about anything car audio!
Anyways, here’s my proposed system. It’s intended to be SQ and limited (as performance is an issue for me):
Focal Polyglass 33V2
- 13" Subwoofer
- 2.5" (double)Voicecoil
- Nom handling 400W
- 25-50L Bass Reflex enclosure recommended
Focal Utopia 165W 2 way
- 6.5" Midbase
- 1.4" Voicecoil
- TN51 Tweeter
- Nom handling 100W
Alpine CDA-9815
- 50W x 4
- 4v x 3 Preouts
- Subwoofer level control
Audison SRx3
- 2 x 75W (4Ohm)
- 2 x 110W (2Ohm)
+
- 1 x 250W (4Ohm)
- 1 x 310W (2Ohm)
The vision is to have door pods for the 6.5s, tweeters on the A pillar, and the subwoofer firing backward into the boot. A bit of deadening in the doors and bootlid, and hopefully I could get some decent sounds out of it?
Has anyone sampled this range of splits? Are there any other suggestions or recommendations?
Thanks,
Shai

Think you could stretch the budget a bit to upgrade the head unit to the 9815 model? as far as I remember, they are not that much more cost wise and the 9815 has a lot more to offer than the 9811. for the level of the rest of the system
i think a head unit like the 9815 is justified.
also about the alpine amp, Ive used the eclipse 4 channel amp in the past (85 x 4 rms) which is similar in price to the alpine but has more grunt and less bells and whistles. you wont need the flashy x-over settings of the alpine amp if your using the 9815 and its own internal x-over so it might be a good idea to get a beefier amp as those speakers will want all the clean power you can give them.

i'd suggest a better powered amp for the splits.
the focals want more than 100WRMS
i'm running 230WRMS to my 3 ways.
if you rn that amp bridged just to power the splits it's be about right, and get another amp for the sub,
i personalyl don't like the sound of Alpine amps, they sound a bit sterile to me.
i'm runnign a JL300/4(bridged) but i'd also recommend an LRx2.500 or VRx2.250
the JL amp sounds a bit brighter, but it's also a bit crisper in the midrange/midbass,
the audison is a warmer/softer sounding amp.
(i had a VRx2.150)
i've also got the 9815 and highly recommend it.

Good choices, just be sure to shop around and make sure that those things are exactly what you want/need.
Hey, at least you've made a decision, some people on here can't decide anyting!

i wasnt impressed at all with my focal utopia 165w's there a mid range, not a mid bass and they made my car stereo feel like there was just something missing.. have now changed to 2 sets of DD audio 6.5" mid bass drivers and im a hell of a lot happier... the woolfers are only $250 each, and all u need to do is get crossovers built and buy a set of decent tweeters such as the middle of the range dyna audio ones.
VERY NICE

it's all high quality components you're choosing there.
as mentioned, the only potential weak point will be the amp, but mostly only coz of poor upgradability. it'll be perfectly fine (incl SQ-wise) if that's the only amp you intend to run for a long time (years). however, if you decide to upgrade, you may end up replacing the whole amp rather than adding to it. typically, people add a separte subamp monobloc to replace a relatively low-power amp currently driving their sub(s). in your case, you'll end up having a '3rd' channel you cannot use, which is a waste.
but sure, you have to start somewhere, and most people cannot afford to buy their dream system straight up. but you may consider starting out with a 4-channel amp, that you can run the sub from the bridged 3rd-4th channels (which may dictate running a 4ohm sub). then later add a monobloc amp to solely run the sub, and have the 3rd-4th channels run something like rearfill.
good luck

Yeah, definitely make sure you listen to the Utopias before you buy them. They're more accurate, but have less mid-bass so depending on what you like the sound of, you may actually find the Focal K2 or K2P splits will sound better. Although I havent heard them, i've read that it's the same with Boston Pro series versus Boston Z series (i.e. lots of ppl think the pros sound better than the Zs).

thanks for the replies, guys
I had auditioned quite a few splits before finally making the decision to go 165Ws. As mentioned its not very mid-bass sensitive but does make it up in terms of greater quality and 'lift'.
I actually ended up buying the SRx3 too, mainly because it is intended to be a long-term investment (two amplifiers also means more weight )
thanks again
