Hey guys

Just trying to get an opinion from anyone who has experienced the Utopia splits and the K2 Power Splits.

I have read that the K2P, even though it's cheaper, can play louder and clearer than the Utopias and have had more research put into them.

But that's just advertising..I just wanted some insight from more knowledgable and hopefully unbiased people.

Have listened to both for a very long time at different point and in different cars and my opion is the K2P win hands down, they have more mid base attack, the tweeter is much nicer and yes the do play much louder and clearer, K2P all the way mate.

totally agree ... quite surprised by the K2's and they are definitely more my style of speaker compared to the current utopia's anyways - warmer, crisper and bassier. Personally IMO don't waste your money on the utopia's unless you get a bargain price - but even then I would fork extra for the K2's - if I was going down the focal path again. I would imagine the new utopia range will be a force to reckon with in the near future.

I personally recommend that you audition the speakers with a CD with your favourite songs and see which one sounds better to your ears. It was not till I started properly auditioning splits that I realised what I liked and didn't like and especially what I needed in splits. I bought a pair of a/d/s/ splits and to me they sound warm in comparison to the hollow sounding focals. Many ppl would disagree but this is what my ears tell and the music I listen to.

Id suggest the K2s have a lot more mid bass sensitivity but is outpreformed by the utiopias in terms of a 'stronger' sound and more dynamic 'lift'...to each its own though: i reckon you need a demo of both!

if you cant wait 6 months the new utopias will be awesome!

Cos I'm asking about utopias vs K2P's which are the newer K2's. Just makin sure..

ANd whats this about new Utopias? they're releasing another utopia line later???

the focal distributor (ken is it??) mentioned the new utopias hitting the shores third quarter 2004... !!!
