Why 5x7 ? You could get an excellent set of 6.5" splits for under $700 and enough left to get an adaptor made up!

What about making a spacer for the six inch slpits? E.g. a 5x7 baffle and then cutting the whole out. Would sound better then the 5x7. Also the h/u on the XR is not that poerful, might want to look at upgrading that. I have the same problem at the moment with my EB. I still have the Kappa Perfects in it. But running the stock h/u they will distrot at about 1/2 volume. Might want to make sure you match the speakers to the h/u. All that siad, if 5x7's are your thing then Rockford make some pretty good 5x7's.

I'm pretty sure Hertz make a pair of 5x7" splits in the High Energy series. Probably be around the $350-$400 mark. Hertz speakers have a very good reputation for their build quality and midbass abilities, although I have heard some people say the tweeter could be improved.
If you are keeping the stock head unit then you will be severely underpowering any good set of speakers you buy (ie. you'll get bucket loads of distortion) Have you considered adding a small 2 channel amp to the system? You just need to find one with speaker level inputs. This will improve the sound quality immensly.

Good luck doing that Other than running a seperate HU to the factory one, word on the grapevine is you're screwed due to the tight integration of the HU into the factory computer system

i supposed you'd need to use a line-level-convertor and run RCAs off of that. but that still means the signal has passed through the HUs inbuilt amps, which is often a little dodge.
worth pulling off the door trims to see how hard is would be to change the plastic baffle to an mdf one to hold round speakers. probably very easy to do and greatly increases the options for splits.

Your'e right stick, I actually brought a series 2 AU XR6 due to not being able to intergrate with the BA h/u. I was more suggesting that this guy needs to 'power match' his speakers to the h/u, and not waste money. Line level converters can be used in it's place, but err..... not my cup of tea.
Also it is p^ss easy to make the mdf baffle to fit the 6 and tweet in the door. Eficient speakers are a must by the sounds of things.

The rca's on the blau adaptor are only for audio comming out of the dvd player itself. DW, line level converters arn't that bad, when your stuck with a headunit you can't replace.
I'll be doing the exact same thing.

I have installed several sets of rally 5x7 splits into AU's & BA's, these are the best option for ease of install and excellent SQ for the money. In the BA we use 2ch Rockford punch amps because they have a very good speacker line in that works well with the standard unit, although the premium unit sounds better for some reason but it seems that you already have the headunit thing sorted! For the best results with the stock H/U look at some of Audiocontrols small EQ's, they have speaker level in to high volt RCA out's, these work great but are still no substitute for a replacemnt H/U.

5x7 Splits are not a Necessity.
JBL 8626E 2-ways are The Sweetest Sounding Co-axial I have Heard in along Time.
I am using them in All 4 Doors in my Mondeo and I love them. (Yes the Mondeo has the Same annoying Size speakers as the Ones in the BA front Doors)
Just Buy a Set of Alpine Type S or R ( Not Sure) 5x7s and add an Additional Tweeter to them.
