Hi,

Just trying to create a shortlist for myself of 2 way 6" splits around the 500 dollar range.

i haven't really considered many as i have been looking at the 300 dollar range before and was going to go for the Hertz HSK165 or the MBQ Discus series, but have a little larger budget now...

Was thinking the next series up from MBQ, the reference series (RSE216), any comments on these?

Boston Rally 6" are very nice, about $400.

Ummm... not really sure about any other worth talking about

I second the bostons or perhaps some Folcal Polykelvars if you can stretch the budget a bit and bargain them down a fair bit.

How much are the focal polykevlar rrp?

I am still thinking of getting the MBQ RSE216, they are at the top of my list at the moment in this 400-500 dollar range..

Personally I didnt really like the sound of the MB Quart speakers. They seemed a little to "tinny" for me. As for the Focals I think the RRP is $599 or is it $499 now? Can someone confirm this please.

yeah, the boston rally RC620's are amongst my favourites in that price category. nice rhythmical, engaging sound with good midbass. i find they're similar to the hertz HSK but a little better defined.

i think the focal polykevlar 165K's can come in under $500 streetprice, so worth sussing that out.

you may be able to bargain down pioneer's aramid-cone TS-C160R splits. these are very nice (might surprise you). and alpine offer their new DLC-176A DDLinear splits which might be to your liking; don't need much power either to perform to their best. and then there's phoenix gold's tantrum series splits.

of course, go out and listen to as many as you can to help decide what you like. see what stores are in the yellow pages and drop in for a demo.

good luck

I'm in the same boat.. lookin around the $500 mark. But round here we have 2 audio shops.. Autobarn & another crappy lil shop which don't sell much in the way of reputable stuff anyways. Needless to say, I can't audition anything decent with out drivein 5hrs.

What do u's wrekon bout the new Focal K2's? A friend who does some nice installs from home recommended them but didn't know RRP.
Can anyone help me out?

I checked out the Focal K2P's, but they seem quite expensive, a guy quoted me $880, but you could probably bargain it down a bit. I think there are 2 types of K2P's, this the better one with the cone thingy in the middle that helps disperse the sound or something (dunno wat its called)

Then the next one down is the Focal 165U2, the polyglass series, and i think they are around the 500 dollar mark, got quoted $530.
