I am after a set of high quality component speakers. The budget is approximately $800. It's been a while since I've been in the car audio game but from memory, I recall that two sets I should be listening to are:
1) Dynaudio system 240GT; and
2) Boston Pro 6.5.
Are there any newer or other models I should be auditioning? If so, what's the street price on them?

you should definetly have a look into Rainbow Car Audio products. They are a new brand to Australia but are already making people stop and listen. Rainbow has been winning awards in Europe for years now and should do the same in Australia.
For your budget, I would look into the Profi Vanadium Line and the 6.5" Kickbass split system.

www.advanceae.com.auIf you or anyone would like some information about auditioning the speakers, don't hesitate to email me at sales@advanceae.com.au

Thank you for your link. I have looked at the CS 265 P and have a few questions:
1) I note that peak power is listed as 110w - is this a peak or rms figure? (I will be running 200rms to the splits via a Precision Power amp);
2) Where in NSW can I audition the CS 265 P?
3) How does it compare to the Dyns and Boston? I've owned both sets previously and was overwhelmingly impressed.

That is thepeak power and thats for the 'normal' CS 265 P, the Kickbass version of the CS265P has a peak of 150w.
I would go the Kickbass.

If you're in Sydney, try and have a listen to AVI's range of speakers - you can audition them at Metrosound in Artarmon. Also, would be worthwhile checking out the new Morel range, Diamond Audio and CDT if you can find them.

FHRX Studios are the NSW authorised retailers for Rainbow Car Audio

I would also suggest auditioning a pair of Focal Polykevlar K2P, if you like Dyn and Boston you may like the focal since they now use a different tweeter

Give the Morel Ovation's a trial too.

Ah yes AVI. They won a few WhatHifi awards for their neutron range of bookshelf speakers. Haven't listened to them yet, but I'm guessing they'll sound quite nice.

Thanks for all the recommendations boys but can you also tell me (if you have had the chance to audtion them) how your recommended splits stack up against the warm, laid back sound of the Dyns and the big, in your face sound of the Boston Pro's?
Anyone auditioned the Boston Z series splits?

Zs are awesome, but in a totally different price range.

If you don't have the money for Boston Z's don't listen to them 'cause you'll want a pair + they will make the others you have listened to sound good not great!!
Also listen to MBQuart.

I'd describe the Rainbow Pro's that way and with more mid-bass.

I was looking through the advanceae website and saw the rainbow reference splits with an rrp of $7,499 , is this a spelling error, because if its not, they are the most expensive splits ive seen.

That price is correct and it is actually cheaper to buy that system in Australia than in the US and many other countries!
Although expensive, the Reference line has won many many awards for outstanding sound quality!

They retail in the USA for US$7,000-7,500!!!
They are hand made to order and have a lifetime warranty.

The Rainbow Pros and Vanadiums mentioned cost about 25% less than the Dyn 240 GT.
