hi guys,
i considered the vifa tweeter but it had to be cut beyond 3000hz for optimal performance but since i wanted to mount my tweeter on the dash that cant be soi i went for the supremos

i wanted to know what frequency cut offs yield good results. i know every body is different but i just wanted to know the ball park figure so i can save some time thanks cheers

Incar mag states 300hz ( ). I can scan that article if you'd like!!!

I've yet to try mine. Marc said something like 1600mhz from memory (?) was where it started playing up...... what ever you find, I'll be following with great interest!!!!!

What's the rest of your front stage going to consist of??

600Hz is where they start rolling off.

I blew two up at 300Hz, but that's coz I pushed them too far to see where they really can go.

In all reality I think 1K would be safe with moderate power levels, but it really depends on what other drivers you are running them with, and 2/3 way etc.

i was in email contact with a guy from Isreal with a supremo and he tried crossing over at 1Khz on a 24db/oct slope to see if it worked and he said it was fine, but it sounded terrible. I'd recommend starting around there(maybe a little higher) and working your way up till it works best(remember, playing lower does not = better)

......... neither does a sharper crossover slope automatically equal "better".

been playing around with tweeters with low resonant frequencies

even if a tweeter has a similar resonant peak frequency like the dynaudio esotar and the scanspeak revelator they did not like a similar cross-over point or type.

after months of playing around i have preferred the esotar with a 6db/oct and the scanspeak with 12 to 18db/oct.

with this being said the other factor is the mid being used. For example if you are to use a 6db/oct you should try and look for a mid that is flat and clean to 5khz at least. Any mid with a phase lug has to be taimed with a eq ciruit or sharp cross-over (18db or above). Examples of these mids are the focal and seas range of mids.

i seen the specs on the morel car audio driver and it looks sooo promising. Keep us up to date on the progress. Maybe the next step is a fully active system.

good luck

To even give you a guess, we will need on and off axis response curves of both the mid and tweeter, as well as the impedance curves of both - you generally have to use an impedance compensation circuit to smooth the impedance so the slope of the crossover will be how it is meant to be.

i use a pair of dynaudio mids to go with the supremos. i i'm kinda busy at the moment n i cant be bothered to put the equipment in other than doing the tuning myself. do you guys know of any good and cheap and reliable installers in sydney??
