ive got a set of hertz hsk-165s and although i am quite happy with the sound when theyre running off my bridged 4 channel Alpine v12, i feel as if the mid-range is lacking. Im quite happy with the midbass now as they have worn in and ive got more power into them, however if theyre is any tricks in improving the midrange id be quite happy.

I've always thought HSK-165's were a little flat in the midrange department.
Unfortunately, with a two way passive setup there isn't that much you can do with midrange. Highs and Midbass can be affected by installation etc, but midrange is pretty much what you've got is what you've got with out changing speakers.

i ditched the tweeter on mine and got something a bit more decent and that would go alot lower and ran them active. made a huge improvment!

About the only thing I can suggest is playing with the woofer angle, ie trying to get them facing up and back, rather than side to side (presuming you have the installed in the doors).

yeah they are down a bit in the mid, but they're so smooth for the dollar that i forgive them.
perhaps an eq might help you out??

Angle the woofer towards the listening position. This would increase the midrange coming from the midbass driver dramatically

yeah, an EQ may be the best value approach to try and help the situation.
but beyond that, as marc mentioned, you're probably best off upgrading the splits entirely or go 3-way.

thanks for the help guys. i just bought the splits and i dont plan to sell theem anytime soon. maybe i am just a bit picky but overall im quite happy with these splits so ill just have to ride out the flatness in the midrange

Ive found the same problem with my HSK's. The only way I could find to over come it was to boost the mid range frequencies on the headunit.
