Basically as the topic suggests im looking for a good A/B or T class amp around the 6-700 watts mark. It will be used to power a Focal 27K sub which is rated at 300 watts @ 4 ohms but being focal its greedy and likes alot more power than its rated at plus i want a decent anount of head room. I'd preffer a monoblock. I would preffer to stay away from class D as i previously had Alpine MRD-M500 while it was a good amp and had enough power it lacked something what i cant put my finger on but it lacked i power the sub currently with a Precision power 480X 2 channels bridged = 160 watts the sound adds what ever was previously missing but as this am was brought to power the front stage with 160watts per side and currently its feeding max 80 watts per sid and trying to drive the sub it struggles to say the least at even moderate volumes. so yeah im open to all suggestions and stores where they can be auditioned in melb would help if you know where they can be auditioned.

If you are looking around at secondhand amps I recently parted with a MTX Thunder 2800 (prety sure that was the correct model). It's a class A/B amp and when bridged to 1 channel it will put out in excess of 700watts RMS @ 4ohm.

Just thought i'd tell you Class T is just a hyped up marketing spin on an Class D variant. So if you want to avoid class d, stick with AB. Cheers

*phoenix gold Ti series: 800.1/1200.1
*dls A6: 1x500WRMS into 4ohm; nice amp

any of those would make excellent class AB subamps. but expect to pay well over $1K.

and don't forget the Tru Tech Hammer H1
which will do 600 x 1 @4ohm
1000 x 1 @2ohm
1500 x 1 @1ohm
2000 x 1 @0.5ohm

howabout MRV-1005 , 600wrms at 14.4 at 4ohms..

All amps that i know have good reputations i'll look into them.
As for the T being a variant of D class i thought they were diff cause the T can play all freqs not just bass? that was my understanding any ways.
yeah budgets an issue hence im trying to work out options (to see how big of a loan to get for my trip to england hehe see if i cant strech it enough to fit in an amp as well )
Keep the options flowing in tho. Im also interested in second hand gear (i am keeping an eye on the for sale section of this forum)

class T is a more refined Class D... so pretty much a variant. It differs in the fact that it can change it switching frequency to accomodate up to 20khz. Its also got a sort of prediction feedback to sort out some noise. (don't quote me on any of that through)
Class D and T and both fine for Bass only. Just buy a reputable one.
Google for reviews before you buy it, they're genrally honest about the sound

Top Amp, nice and compact too.

Having used any number of sub amps, the pick of them is the JL 500/1 which has tested to over 700 watts into a real speaker load (as opposed to a resistor).

Quite different to your typical Class D, regulated supply etc, you should get one street price around $800-850 and SQ is superb, better than the A/B amps that preceeded it. Fantastic control.

Quality connections and filters, all connections along one side, efficient, compact. Has it all at good value price for what is offered.

Cheaper option would be an Audison SRx2S. 600wrms at 4ohm when bridges and its just over $500

Another amp that you may be able to use is a Phoenix Gold Ti600.2 bridged... can be had for about 800 second hand, im yet to fault mine
