David, You may possibly be aware of this already, but the Australian competition scene has been dying a slow and horrible death over the last few years.
I for one am a strong supporter of competition (and I know Philip is too), because I beleive that it brings out the best in installers, and promotes growth within our industry.
Australia has been operating under the IASCA banner for a number of years, yet officials are becoming increasingly harder to contact, and increasing numbers of show promotors are electing to use their own judging formats, with little or no consistancy between events.
I was wondering if you have any advice on how we at CAA could go about restoring competition to its rightful place?
Thanks,
Matt.

Why do you think nobody contibutes anything to SPL discussion these days? As soon as a topic starts to get under full steam a bunch of SQfags, who would never contribute anything anyway, jump on board and fuel the fire by making retarded statements. Things get locked and then what was said gets bottled up. It would be interesting to see if what would get said, got said and the issue would get resolved. just my $0.02

I actually don't recall many "SQfags" jumping in SPL threads ... the SPL guys do a good enough job at ruining good threads themselves. So before you start throwing around accusations and claiming people make "retarded statements" perhaps take a little of you own advice hey?

IASCA... ahhh, those were the days. Before it all fell apart completely, that is.
so many rules, so many restrictions.
I think the current format (flexible and light-weight) works a lot better. All we need now is some rubber and a jar of vaseline.
oh, woops, wrong topic.
anyways.
Viva la Difference!
I stopped competing in SPL because the rules changed to disadvantage me.
SQ is ok, because more power doesn't mean you get higher scores (but it can help).

Ask any SPL Competitor and they enjoy watching others in the lanes... as we understand the difficulty of getting big numbers... But a normal person will see 2 12' subs and go that guys doing 150's and this other guys is doing 140 he sucks... they don't understand the differences between the cars, differences between woofers. also 1 car is running 4k the other 500w. the same as somebody who dosn't understand the rules of rugby league. State of origin is one of the greatest spectacles you can see in the sport, But if you didn't know what they were doing it would be boring... I feel the same with SQ... Spend big bucks on gear then listen to it at a moderate volume?? WTF if I'm spending money on gear i want it to sound good but be loud 2... lol

So you're saying you'd rather spend big bucks to listen to your system, once you un-pause it...

Thats what us in the SQ think of SPL

Watch SPL'ers come and defend how much they spend on flatulence

The SPL'ers bumper sticker...

The SPL'ers coffee mug...

And the SPL'ers T-shirt...

bahahahaha ^^^^^^^^^^^^ awesome George!
see, i think of SPL as the beginners end of car audio, cause you only need 1 speaker to start and an amp, you dont need front speakers etc, and then your only playing 1 note, not all of them
then you grow up and get into SQ

(yes im crap stirring you all)
Billy aka Shakes
Nov 19 2008, 11:06 AM
ah i was once into SQ years ago got bored of it as was never loud enough and sounded like a pussy when i'd try to crank it.
if i want SQ i will sit at home and listen to the awesome theater system i have in my lounge room.
if i wanted to compete in SQ guarantee i could prob be at the top end of that to with the money i have spent on SPL.
SQ is easy very very easy, if ya have the money right equipment set it up right band you can win. but why compete in a sport where the winner is decided by a persons supposedly trained, partially deaf ear.
you could have the best SQ car in australia and never compete in SQ. i bet take it to the MEASQ finals it wont win the top spot i bet ya. and thats why SPL guys chose to run SPL because its much harder costs less to win, and also the termlab cant be altered to make it easier for another person to win.
in reality SQ is your sport guys SPL is our sport. honestly if the top SPL guys wanted to they could be top SQ guys to. and if the top SQ guys really wanted to they could prob be top SPL guys. the two sports are just as easy as each other if you have the time and money to put into them

SPL is the beginner of car audio LMAO.how funny is that comment
more like SQ is the beginner of it. because every car comes out stock with sound quality all ya need is one amp to run the stock car speakers as most stock speakers are splits in cars now and a sub for bass. bang you have a car with good sound quality after some tunning.
thats it for me anyway. if people want to put sh*t on a sport they have never been involved in really, then be prepared for people like me to put sh*t on those people and their sport. and especially when FUDD a previous moderator or admin of this site is one of the people involved in the sh*t slinging, which i find even worse you being involved FUDD looks good for the site doesnt it.
when was the last time ya seen a pure SPL guy thats high in the sport in the SQ sections slinging crap at the sport. prob barely ever
yet the SQ guys yas want to sling crap all the time in the SPL threads.
and i never usually put SQ down but if SQ guys are going to go putting SPL down im the first in line to sling it back. if it gets me banned or not. theres no need for it.
and as for slinging mud remember SPL may have winges at times.
but how many people quit the SQ comp scene after the 2007 finals last year. a whole state decided to say bye to the sport basically.

Tegs, at the db comps themselves I think there is a friendly atmosphere, but in the SPL forum on here certainly is not.
I just shake my head sometimes at the crap and dribble I read. There are definately a certain few individuals that are mostly responsible for it, and slowly but surely we are filtering them out in the best interests of everyone.

I won almost every dB drag event in victoria (Street A Class) with my SQ woofers. and only a few points shy of maximum points nationally.
and for under $2500.
SQ is way harder to excel at.
i.e. took me under 2 years to top the class in SPL (victoria), after 4 years of SQ I'm still getting there, and spent four times as much money.
I respect both, both are based on science and fun.
dB drags is more of a spectator sport; no doubt about it, but SQ has a lot more challenges technically.

Something for you loud daily driver folk to take in where us little system folk get to sit back and take in the sunshine with a bag of popcorn and some nice tunes.
QUOTE
Noise from vehicle sound systems Sound systems that can produce very high levels of sound are often fitted to vehicles. Of particular concern are the low frequency noise levels generated when music is being played. Low frequency noise (or booming noise) can penetrate buildings and other vehicles more easily than high frequency or mid-frequency noise and this can annoy surrounding residents, vehicle drivers and pedestrians.
Clauses 16 and 17 of the Regulation contain penalties for offensive noise produced by vehicle sound systems. As a guide, if the sound can be clearly heard outside the vehicle and contains low frequency noise, it is likely to
be offensive.
Under clause 17, a person who causes a motor vehicle sound system to emit offensive noise when driving or using a motor vehicle on a road or road-related area can lose two demerit points and also be issued with a $150 penalty notice by DECC or the police.
Owners of vehicles who receive penalty notices and who were not driving the vehicle at the time of the alleged offence, may nominate the driver.
