Well I do have 2 x 12" Alpine Type-R's but i've noticed that the suspension on one of them is alot softer then the other? or maybe one of them is harder then the other. Would this be hindering my SPL performance due to phase relationships?
I was playing some tones below the tuning of the box (at low volume naturally) and watched, I was very surprised to notice that it is completely visible to the eye that they are very out of phase with eachother, but above tuning it is not as evident.
Wiring is 100%... have 4GA running to a twin Aeropro distro block and 12GA speaker cable from there to each coil.
Any thoughts guys?

is one much newer than the other? maybe its not run in fully yet?
I'm assuming the subs aren't wired in series or anything like that..

Got them 2nd hand, both off the same person but I suppose its possible that he bought each at different times.
All coils in parallel bro

are they in seperate chambers?
maybe one chamber isn't sealed as well as the other?

Maybe swap em over with each other, to test this?
Apart from that, it sounds wierd. In general a sub needs about 1 minute to break it in initially, and about 5 seconds of playing if not played for a long time, so unless one is much older, or damaged, it should be the same.

They are in a common chamber with a single port. I have had them for a few months now and have put plenty of loud music and low power burps through them so they should be worn in shouldn't they? I'm pretty sure they are both in perfect working order, just the suspension on one of them either is much stiffer then the other or one is much softer. Maybe the previous owner bought them at different times?

even if purchased at different times, i think the wearing in period and its effects on the subs should even out eventually.. especially if u have pushed them a bit off the same power..
maybe look at the box/wiring recommendations mentioned..
ive seen the same thing happen a few times. it has always been a wiring/phase problem, or a poorly sealed enclosure..
if the wiring and box is perfect, maybe one sub is actually faulty.. if a (faulty) coil heats up too much, it can 'stick' sometimes, not allowing the cone to move as freely as it should..

Andu, I didn't want to tell you but I used one of these subs as a boat anchor for about 3 months thats probably why one isn't as flexible!

!
They were both bought at the same time and boxed together facing out, both with the same amount of power into each sub. Don't know what the problem is, sounds like they could be out of phase.

Well they managed a 145.4db burp and many other 140+ burps on sunday, so I doubt there could be any phase problems due to wiring, i'm sure one of them would of blown or scored really low if there was

Well I let some other guys have a feel of the suspension on them and one is definitely squishier then the other... might of just imagined the out of phaseness below tuning though

the only thing I can think of, is one has been rebuilt, or is much newer than the other, and one of the parts is slightly different to the other
otherwise, I've got no idea
