I have my own opinions in regards to being able to balance SQ with SPL, but is it possible to build a system that is competitive in SPL (not necessarily big numbers, but biggish - say 145+), and still retain a decent amount of SQ?
im in the process of building my new system, and am in a dilemma as to box design. i have a tech from Custom Car Sound (importers of Kicker, MTX etc) helping me out with the boxes.. they have come up with a few designs for me, but im worried that a box aimed more for SQ wont give the bass im after, and that a SPL aimed box wont give the SQ im after!!
one idea they had was to build a slot ported box with multiple ports with covers, that can be removed for SPL and covered up for SQ (and daily driving).. what are your opinions on this style of box? has anyone done it?
i dont think i'll be entering the new setup in comps as i dont think it will be competitive in S3-4, so a full SPL system wont be done, but im soo used to having big bass on tap!... hence my dilemma!!!
(btw I'll be using three (or four) 10s off a big Class D amp..)
