I remember hearing on Termpro that some Yanks (in Street and Super Street) crank their Aircon on full and run it through the de-fog just prior to a run.
The theory goes that all that cold Air will be directed up onto the Microphone tip which sits just an inch from the glass, thus slightly agitating the Mic diaphragm and gaining an increase in SPL.
Its not against the rules and has anyone tried it???, was it successful??.

i have tried it, well not with air con, just with the stanard fan on max. the theory was, if you have pressure (from the fan) going up into the mic, then you make a burp with produces pressure the other way, the added pressure from the fan will give you a higher reading.
sounds nice in theory. but in reality, didn't do crap!

i dont think any air con fan is strong enough to actually affect the pressure readout of the mic, but i think there is merit in having a cool cabin (cool air is denser than warm air), plus, we all know the advantages of cool amps/subs!

I dont know Guys,
I have waved my hand very gently in front of an Audiocontrol Mic and it registered as an increase.
We have one guy who has tried it, anyone else??.

Maybe that was from boiling a kettle in his car? Apparently massive humidity does wonders for SPL

Icebreaker @ MAS was dropping .1db per burp he was doing, due to massive voltage drop, however when he put the aircon on full, he increased .1db each more run he did. But yes the yanks will do anything and everything to gain .1db i just like freeze in a can over your amp to keep them extra cool between runs,
cheers

Yeah, as BIGW mentioned.
I've tried the Air-Con theory to chill the air. I didn't try it on the De-fog vent though... But i was hitting like 9.5-11v in the boot over MAS weekend, with the stereo thumping away...
But at the end of the day, it's a trade off for your power running the Fan on full, which might take 5-10 amps away from another needy source (Your Amps)
But for myself, cooling the cabin i went from 141.7, 141.6, 141.5 Last run with the cabin like an eskimo's hut. 141.8dB
as you can see the voltage slowly dropping, over the runs was obvious... But the cabin temp seemed to boost the dB like .1dB - .3dB
I'll have to try the demister vent though... would depend on the car though.

Hmmm... I've never thought about this before but it will be efinately tested next time I'm at a comp. This theory definately has merit because I've since the day i was into SPL that my system was louder at night (with colder, denser air) than it was in the day. i cant believe I never thought about it before. Thanx Weapon!
