t/s specs buddy, you should know the drill by now.
BTW, you've got ~120L to play with in your boot, 145L max. (more if you wanna use the area around your strut baces, but this looked too difficult to me )

i only want this for spl...

and keep my sealed for daily driving...

is the general rule "the bigger the better" true for SPL?

note: i know nothing about ported boxes hahaha

make the biggest box you can and tune the thing to about 38hz that would give a nice peak around the resonance frequency of your car.

That will go pretty loud, but you could squeeze 1 db more by using more specific numbers and being more exact over the tuning and resonance freqency's

Thanks to both of you...

It is damn tempting if i can get some cheap MDF... i can't justify spending much more money on wood hahaha

ported 12w0's never worked for me... sealed was just as loud.

were going to be building a ported for box for Sir BoomsAlot's 15, it will be the recommended 4.5 cu ft + our extra bit ;)

Go by the recommended size and then go a little larger if you can.

If you want, you can wait till the end of this month and see (and hear) this box at Doran's.

If i did it i wanted it ready for this months doran so then if it was any good i could put it in Final Battle (just so i could say i was in FB hahaha)...

Right now i think i will leave my SPL ideas alone and buy some telephoto lenses for my camera so i can get some nice zoomed in shots of the final battle chicks... mmmm

Thanks for everyones help!

Note: If someone gives me free wood i will make the box hehehe

the one thing I keep noticing with people comparing ported vs sealed, is they go from a small sealed box, generally placed in a good position, getting a good amount of gain from rear loading..

then they put in a massive ported box, in a different position and they get less gain from loading (and if the box is very large, that there isn't much room around it, that can affect things too)
basically they are losing anything they gained from porting

plus, with large boxes, the peak is narrower and the loudest tuning frequency is harder to pick

An update for you all

Talked to Pottsie and he is supplying the mdf for me (great prices) and making the box to the specs of the "DB Monster" on the JL website...

hopefully making it's debut at doran at the end of this month...

Just want 140db...

Hey Hey Hey HEYYYYYYy...

You only want 140Db, NOOOOO problems, i had a JL15W04 in a 1.75cft sealed enclosure running at 200WRMS, and in my friends Ford Laser TX3 we achieved 142.9Db no sweat, and if we had more time to experiment with placing of the sub we may have been able to slightly better that. These subs are more suited to sealed enclosures, and they sound sweet in them! I now have another one (sold the other one to the friend with the TX3). The box i have now is 1.25cft!!! and the sound is amazing as i shove 240WRMS (PPI2240) up its backside. JL Audio make decent stuff, enjoy your sub. (dont forget GO SEALED)

It's running in a ~1.7ft box at the moment which is sealed...

i just want this new box to run to get tested... i will still use the selaed as everyday box though...

currently using the bridged jaycar 2.150 (484wrms) can't remember what teh gains are at, something like 1/2-3/4

and this is all in a mirage so the sealed may have got 140db... but i am not paying $15 at doran to see a 139.9 (bad luck kiama crew, next time u will get 140 hehe)

a JL 15w0 should make 140 no sweat

are u serz 1.75 cuft..

i know JL have one of the best SQ...
im guessing here but 1.75 was design for sole prupose of SPL..

im guessing here but the tuned freq would be like the 50hz..- mid 50s

to be honest, the dB-monster boxes aren't designed for all-out SPL.. (actually, I know exactly why they aren't..)

a ported box will have an efficiency advantage over the sealed, but the dBmonster box is tuned far too low for the best SPL (actually, because it is tuned low, it will actually be suitable for everyday driving..)
