Ok... I went to a battery store today, and the guy there (40 years in battery business) said that buying a fancy battery would be a waste of time! he was a bit rude, but reckons I would only need basically a standard $100 battery for my application, ie - about 100amp draw for SPL burps... Is he right? I mean, why have I always been told to get nice big batt that will have big cca and a/hr?

I told him i already had a Delkor (which he sells) that does 8** cca and 90a/hr and he said no need, just get one of these (points to no name everyday batt, 300cca)! so whats doing? Have I been under a dream for the past year? or has this guy no idea?

He probably has an idea about batteries but doesn't know much about the application, being car audio and how critical voltage stability is to an amp in competition circumstances. Sure the scummy little battery will put out 100A but with how much voltage drop... with bigger/multiple batteries all your aiming for is less voltage drop.

Or maybe he just doesn't stock expensive batteries

I once said I needed cable that can flow 500A for my stereo and they laughed at me!

Any normal battery will drop 1V or more with just 50A draw.

The bigger you go the lower the drop. This means more SPL everytime.

well speaking of ppl I was told that any ANL fuse over 80amps needed to be put on special order cos i asked for one around 200-250 i was like WTF and headed to jaycar and found a 100amp one tha did do for now(i previously rang up jaycar and they said they didn't have one at all) it is hard to do things somtimes and some ppl don't help

Hi BodyJar,

Regarding batteries... if running 4 amps is it best 2 run 4*12volt batteries or 4*8volt batteries in series .. What is your opinion? and what brands of subs are rated for the best power handling...

So you want to know if its better to run a 48V system or 36V system?

batteries must be run in parallel to keep their same voltage.

when running in series, the voltage adds. (eg 12v in series with another 12v =24v system.)

i think he is asking wether to have

4x12v in paralell
or
2x8v in series............in paralell with another 2x8v in series, thus creating a 16v system.

Most amps won't take two 8 volt batteries.

We normally go a 6V and an 8V, this 14V setup floats around 15.8V, whereas two 8V float over 17.5V which causes most unmodified amps to shut down.

Unless of course they're designed with this voltage in mind (cough *DD*) LOL

I haven't had any experience with multiple batt or big volt systems but I would imagine for 4 amps 4 12V batts in parallel would be better then 4 8V batts in series/parallel because the 12V system would have twice the current available to the amps. Higher voltage may be of little use without the extra current to back them up.

It depends

not all batteries are created equal, so you can have 2 8's in series with more current flow than 4 12's in parallel
