im thinking of trying to hit some good numbers for spl, most obvious a little gain is ported box. i spoke to a store today and they told me if i use a ported box for spl i will blow my subs.2x12"type r, will possibly feed them up to 1000rms each. if i tune the box to 30hz and use around a 50hz tone(best for car frequency) will it be ok. should i just use a sealed box or ported?

PM me with which store out of interest (I can almost predict but just want to see (same subs))

warning though 1000WRms is a lot for typeRs why not just run 500ish (they'll already be at peak excursion with that probably) and they'll have a lot less chance of losing their magically conductive smoke! There's no point to pumping in more power if you're already at Xmax - it just gets turned into heat

edit - bah it's the artist formerly known as tx3 - I thought we had a new SA member

BAH! I have 1800wrms for my Type-R's tuned @ 42Hz at the moment. There is some guy up QLD way putting 1100wrms each! for his 10" type-r's hehe

ported would work well in your car if you took the parcel shelf out, built a bigger box with subs and ports aiming up

your subs won't neccesarily blow in a ported box (I think the person you were talking too doesn't quite know what they were talking about)

as far as tuning goes, it depends on the size of the box and the peak frequency (low 40hz range I'm guessing with the size box that will fit in your car).. your car will most likely be peaking at around 50hz and around 56-58hz like my car

ill see you at the next meet bassaholic to discuss what you have in mind
