how many times? what model(s)? what impedance(s)? how many burps, how long were the tones etc? i just want to know all the details, mainly cos i want to know what i am in for...
and were the amp(s) modded, and if so what way...?

Full Version: who has smoked a D2?
Purps smoked one of his d2s @ 1 ohm i think. the normal mod of upping the internal fuse i think it is.
d2s are funny alot of people have smoked then and alot have had no problems. all at the same ohm etc

Smoked mine once, after a comp, little volume and at 1 ohm.
I wanna know aswell! And how exactly do they smoke? what burns, how much to replace etc etc...

there are quiet a few. Internal fusing, change a couple of caps, and a big one to make it more on par with the d3
we blew a d2 we blew all the fets and all the resistors that was $190 to get fixt and we blew sumthink else that makes the amp run witch hasnt been fixt yet that'll probely be a nuther $200 so dont go blowing these amps
oh and we blew the amp at .7 of a ohm arfter about 15seconds of burping at 50 hz

one of the mods (proper mods, not the fuse change) helps it put out more power at higher impedances.. it will make it more likely to fry at lower impedances..

i don't know how to do it only know of amps that have been done
ok first one my old 200DHC got half way through a song fried both subs which took the amp out 2ohm
got the amp back tried 1ohm smoke
got it back again run it at 4ohm got to the second last round & run it at 1 ohm smoke .5 sec
then got a d2 run it at 1 ohm smoke 1.5 sec
then got a 200DHC MK2 did not even get to hook it up to the subs - speaker out touched the body of the car smoke
have seen them go up in smoke just hooking up the power wires
have never modded a amp
have run them at .75 and no smoke it all depends on the subs and box
each time it cost between $180 & $250
it's all good fun

ok, assuming i get warrantty, i can smoke away and EQ will fix it under its warantty right?
of course i'll say, i was only running it at 2ohms... so is it ok for me to smoke away and not get charge for the repair???

we blew all the fets and resistors and 1 or 2 IC's
if u cook the ICs the amp mite aswell be chucked in the bin because there is no modle/product number on them so u cant get replacments

you should have been expecting smoke at .5ohms... plus playing tone for 15sec is just asking for trouble.

correct me if im wrong but i belive that the d2s are designed to run at 1.3 ohms dont get me wrong they run at 1ohm but eventually something has to go it happend to a mate and had his for about 2 years at 1ohm without a problem and then out came the smoke he blew a capacitor
they are designed to be stable at 2ohms... but people burp them way below that level.
yes, they are designed for a 2 ohm nominal load for daily driving..

I had the DHC 200 for a year, ran it at 2 ohms nominal no problem,

I then ran four modded extra caps at 1.3 ohms Re for six months daily driving with a 120mm 12V fan on each one and they loved it , the cooling fans made them a lot happier, they never got hot at all, best $80 I ever spent on those four fans.
Luck of the draw really, IMO going under 1 ohm on the D2 is really rolling those dice, its kinda fun actually.
I was present (and probably partially responsible) when we blew one of Purp's, but sheeat happens in the heat of the SPL run when you are always looking for a bit more performance..

hey u said u had the scematic diagram for the d2? can u tell me where u go this or woulf u be able to give me a copy, i would be willing to even buy from u as i can fix them my self with these diagrams, i can just never locate them.
