Just got off the phone with Angelo from db drag
he spoke to Wayne Harris and was told that when mics go out of calibration the db reading goes up because the diaphram in the mic moves more.
So about the mics being down is not true.
He also certified that we took the Australasian record for ss1-2.
159.0 that puts us 2.8 db from Australias loudest car.
See you all at summernats.

2.8 away? i thought that would make you guys the loudest car in Australia? Huge effort nonetheless!

Nov 21 2002, 04:24 PM
actually the loudest car in australia is 166.2 from incar
so that means u have 7.3 db untill u become The loudest car in oz
no offence but i cant see the handy doing a 166 anytime soon
159 is good tho i would be more then happy with that

according to angelo the loudest car he has ever tested at a db drag event is 161.8 which would officially make it the loudest car in oz

Yeah thats what I meant, I didn't think the INCAR car had been on a dB Drag meter?
yes you would be the loudest Db Drag car. And well done hope to see some higher numbers.
And lets stop guessing with calibration and just get it done. simple fact you and say this and this and that this happens but run of a freshly calibrated meter and all rumours can be put to rest.

thanx for the support krase but like i said u would only need to reclibrate them if your db jumped UP by 5-6 db with no altertions to your system.
lets just hope they get the mics checked and if need be recalibrated before summernats so when we do get some bigger numbers there is no bull**** to deal with afterwards

congrats on the good SS1-2 score
but also pinched mic cords or damaged one can cause irratic reading, dropping th mic etc etc etc but it is nice to have it calibrated often even if the people think it is reading fine
on a note people may see me and some other going on about calibration this is nothing personal if any people reading may take it that way. I just want to be confident in saying wat us as a Db Drag nation have pulled in the lanes is a true indication of the numbers we pull. With more serious car being done we will have somthing to brag about soon
Neway nuff of that crap
Got any pictures I would love to see some of ya car And I will be at nats. No car tho but we will have to catch up and have a beer or 2 or 3 or 4

Every measuring system should be calibrated before EVERY competition.
Competitors spend thousands or tens of thousands on their systems and deserve an acurate reading.
We made 161dB on brand new (ceritfied) Audio Controls back at BAS 2000, this still stands as the Australian Amateur record.
As Purps said, we made 166.2 on a Coustic (dB Drag legal at the time), but this was not official. On the day at SAS 2000 we, like Jack's Charade, scored "OVR" on the old 160dB Audio Controls they were using for the comp. We went on to make 157ish with one of our 4 amps running at 2 ohms as opposed to 4 amps at 0.5ohm.
Bottom line, calibration is essential!!!

I was talking to Craig at autobarn springwood the other day and he told me that there is only 1 person in aus who can calabrate and is in perth. He also said that before each of there comps they send their mics to him to be calabrated.
Can anyone back this up ????????????????
He said that their next comp will be in jan/feb and it would be nice to know if we can use that reading as a standard for Qld meters.

Yeah, every comp at Slacks creek, well the last two have had mics that read (in my opinion) spot on, which is a few dB down from the other mics around here. They also use term pro, so If anyone wants a record of what they'd get on dB Drag, then this would be your place to go.

JUST TO LET YOU NO IN THE LATEST ISSUE OF HOT 4'S THERE IS A SS1-2 CAR THAT RECORDED A 159.4 WITH A LOT LESS WORK SO YOU HAVE SOME COMPETITION BETTER GET TO WORK

BY A LOT LESS WORK I MEAN
IN THE PICS THE MIRA HASNT HAD THE CHASSIS MODS THAT THEY HAVE DONE TO THE HANDY TO GET A BIGGER BOX IN.
THE MIRA HASNT GOT A FAKE DROP TANK TO HOLD THE BATTERIES.
DO I HAVE TO GO ON

my question was directed to OSO3KY about the micra
deafnr
Nov 25 2002, 01:35 AM
as to OSO3KY's reply before about the "fake drop tank" anyone with two eyes would be able to see that it is a battery rack.
OSO3KY
Nov 25 2002, 02:06 AM
oh sorry the battery rack under the back of the vehicle
Well depends on the class. there is extreme which your allowed to have cabin mods etc anxd in SS ur not alowed as much freedom to change the cabin so "alot less work" is due to the rules. and there is still ALOT of work in getting a ss1-2 car to hit just under 160 and gratz on the score whoever u are. good to see some big cars getting around.

It has MTX RFls and 81000D's in it... I think 8 of them? Not sure if it actually got that reading from a comp though? Seems a bit odd that nobody has heard of it before?

im am reading the micra story from hot 4s it says that "in private testing with our termpak system we were able to measure a best of 159.8 running at half power" (now heres the curly bit) "in competition our best figure was 159.4 at full power"
wldwgn
Nov 27 2002, 01:19 PM
thats not curly at all that just means that the termpak meter is out.
and the official one is reading perfect.
e.g.
running at full power on the termpak would probably be about ~161-163
but drop 3-4 db and thats how he got his official score of 159.4
PuRpS
Nov 27 2002, 08:24 PM
if im correct it (the MTX car) dun the 159.* on the SCR meters after the comp had finished at (AAS) Adl/autosalon
still with almost 10kw of power i would wanna do better then 159
also very wierd box the port is weird the hole car is weird i wouldnt hav ever dun a car like that
*shrugs*

I think I know what car it is..
http://www.termpro.com/asp/displaybracket...._Class_ID=19650only the 155.5 seems to have been recorded..
they have now modded the interior a little, so it would now be classed as an extreme car..
