Hey all, will soon be in the market for a new class d amp(or 2 ) to power my two 12" Cerwin Vega Strokers. Was initially looking at a D2 but they cant run at 1 Ohm and i want somethin that will do 1 Ohm for comps and 4 Ohm daily driving. They are dual 4 subs so was maybe even thinking 4 jaycars and havin 1 per coil as i already have one of them. Was looking to spend about 800 or so(either second hand or new) and wanted sumthin around 2000wrms at 1Ohm and sumthin anywhere above bout 1000wrms at 4Ohm for daily driving, as each sub is rated at 1000wrms.
Sorry bout the long and maybe confusing post but jus ask questions bout the setup if u dun understand. Any suggestions or critiscm or ideas are welcome.
Cheers

A D2 would still work.. after impedance rise, the impedance will be much higher.. you want to load down the amp, so the actual impedance at the burp frequency (in the ideal box) = the impedance that the amp puts out the most power at.. That way you get a higher amount of actual power going to the sub

How's about you sell the Stroker's to me, as I have a D2 on its way to power it

Here's a few suggestions:
Alphasonik PMA 1200D, makes 2400W at 1 ohm for day to day, but still makes 2000 at 2 ohms, let's see a D2 do that!
http://www.alphasonik.com/products/detail....p?productsID=43Or a DD 3501 or better still the ulitmate a DD 9501!
http://www.ddaudio.com/caraudio/amps.aspThe D2s are a proven performer, but the DD has more go and the Alphasonik has the go AND the show.
They might be worth considering.
Phil
well we will not c the DD amps for a bit so unles su have months/years to wait they were meant to be out the door this month apparently and Euros have first dibs i have been told.
2 candace a7s
2 81000d mtx
u will be pushing it for 800 apart from maybe a second hand d2 at a good price.

but the D2 DOES make 2000w at 2 ohms (actual load)
the alphasonik looks good though..

D2 does 1600-1800 maybe, but not 2000W off a Street battery. Either way you're not even talking 0.5 of a dB.
At 4-5 ohms my money's on the Alphasonik.

Yeah, and a lot of money you will need for it aswell How much do they retail for Phil? I had a look in one of their brochures, can't remember what they go for, but it was way out of my league...

From what i've heard, if you want to use the strokers for SPL they a need a fair bit of power to get moving, not sure weather they are the best for street class.

phil, when bodyjar and i get our s1-2 cars going, do you mind if we do some side by side testing with the alphasonik vs d2?

one question about the alphasonic amps... do they have protection, or do they just smoke like the d2's when you run them to hard...

Actally Strokers are VERY efficient subs, they need less power than almost any other Big "SPL" sub out there,
I seem to recall a review by CA&E 's Tom Nousaine on the Stroker that raved about its "superlative" 96db sensitivity, it doesnt need thousands of watts to punch out SPL.

As for Strokers being efficient, I've found the opposite.
I've never had very impressive results from Strokers, I've used 15s and 18s, in walls, in hatches etc etc
They show their age against subs like Inhumans, DDs, TREOs etc etc
