I went into a car audio store in Hobart today asking about new amps. I said I was after a monoblock that was 1 ohm stable and pumped out over 1000wrms and they said they didn't exist. I promptly told them that Earthquake, JBL and Lanzar all make amps like this and they could get Earthquake stuff in but didn't like it so they couldn't really help me. The only option they gave me was using multiple amps per sub, which I said was out of the question cause I was wanting to make a street car, not super street and they just looked blankly at me - they didn't know anything about the classes (partially cause we don't run DB drag classes in Tassie). They also said there was no way I could get my 2 Jaycar 10" DVC Response subs to 140 dB regardless of what I did with box and amps despite me telling them what Purps did with his 12's and also that so far I've got 132dB in a sealed box with 470wrms on hand and I was playing music not test tones. Any way the point of my rant is what amps do people know of that are monoblock, 1 ohm stable and put out over 1000wrms. Also do people think my target of 140dB is possible with my current subs?

140dB shouldnt be hard
Maybe a Crossfire BMF1000D around the $1000 mark?
theres plenty more
I think you should avoid the shop you mentioned.
I find going into shops and asking for stuff for a SPL car is kinda hard. Because most of them have NFI what your on about most r just salesmen.

I can sympathise with you lancer guy, same deal here in darwin, none of the shops have heard of names like shocker, dd audio, treo, beyond audio makes things really hard

First of all, I wouldn't be going back to that shop in a hurry. If all the Tassie shops are like that (Im sure they cant be) then it would almost be worth a trip up to Melbourne.
There are plenty of amps that will put out over 1000WRMS available in the market. Factors to consider are your budget, what class amp you want (A/B, D, T) and what quality you are willing to afford. My own brands such as DLS, US Amps and Ground Zero all have amps that would suit, as do others such as Phoenix Gold and Crossfire.

I can nearly hit 140db with ONE Hertz HS250 (I have, but meters could be high). I am certain with 2 Response subs you should be aiming for over 140db, especially if you are running a big monoblock.
A lot of the time, people selling the gear don't know much about car audio. That is why it is best to stick to specialists shops, they are more likely to know what they are on about. If this is a specialist shop, I wouldn't be back there in a hurry...

Thanks for the replies guys. Unfortunately this was a specialist car audio store and it is the only specialist car audio store in Hobart (they have 2 branches but both branches have told me the same thing). It looks like a trip to the mainland is in order to get some decent gear that isn't Alpine (there is nothing wrong with Alpine but that's the brand that this store pushes so almost every car at a recent comp here had some Alpine gear in it and I want something different).

Another annoying thing is that I'm pretty sure this store owns the only RTA in Hobart so I'll still have keep going back to them for testing (or find the cash to buy my own RTA).

brands that make monoblocks capable of making over 1000WRMS:
Earthquake (not really 1ohm stable, but can be done)
Digital designs
MTX
Audison
soundstream
kicker
concept
JBL (not sure about 1ohm)
Zapco
alphasonik
Cadence
PPI
Orion
Rockford Fosgate
as mentioned "DLS, US Amps, Ground Zero, ... Phoenix Gold and Crossfire."
just to name a few
you shouldn't have a problem getting one shipped to Tas, but whether or not you are happy to spend the $$$ on an amp you've never seen or heard is a different story.
oh, and you may find some of the above mentioned amps aren't particularly affordable, but some certainly are affordable

I garantee it was the RC, I feel a little uneasy when they walk round the store showing customer's amplifiers and they use a calculator to divide the peak power 2 and state rms power lol
And another story they sold this guy 2 Pioneer SUBS but they couldn't find any matching so they gave him a slightly diff model for the same price but what the customer didn't realise the 2nd sub was a free-air model and when the dude took it back they didnt believe him even thou I picked it up when I was using BB6 desinging him a box, so they had to ring up Pioneer and ask them and I think Pioneer couldn't beleive that they could stuff something like that up!
I have many more but willtell you more in person IAN, lol
