Ok, i've finally got a confirmation on battery rules that we all wanted to hear!

It IS legal to have a battery bigger than the original tray, the only requirement is that it fits in the same spot without any modification of other engine components. so if you can fit a marine cruiser batt in there do it! where did I get this from?

Read down near the bottom.

Term Pro

dBSteve as I am aware, is a dB Drag judge

So the way I have my battery in at the moment is legal, so all is good! But I may think about getting a Yellow top now
SUBWRX
ok but what happens if u have engine modifications that before you change batterys. what i mean is what happens if you air filters and intercolling piping that is allowing in some way for you do have more space where your batterys goes.
is this ok? because your not changing the engine because of your desire for a bigger battery location right?
Ear bleeder
I guess that would be in breach of the rules, but in a wrx, it would work the other way, less space, because thats where the piping comes up from the intercooler.
Bodyjar
Nah, afraid not... Because who is to say you werent doing it to gain more space? any mods, wether they are or not to gain space arent allowed. So it must go in the standard space...

Well thats my take...
SUBWRX
does this mean you cant have an engine mods near your effecting your battery space in street then?

and can i also ask who knows the excact postions and space of every car at a comp? surely the judge will not know ever cars stock battery locations and its size?
ripped
can you remove the battery try and fit the battery in the same location? if you can fit the battery on the tray surely you are allowed to just remove it as well...
Bodyjar
Yeah, I take it as legal. He says the tray has nothing to do with it, it's all about the OEM "location". It just has to go in that same spot without moving other parts... oh wait, that kinda contradicts it doesnt it... So maybe the tray has to stay? either way, I don't care, my tray doesnt get in the way much
BlackIce
Make take on whats been said..

1. Must be in the OEM location, NOT the OEM tray
2. You can not do something like say.. cut a hole in the fenders or flatten out sections of panel in order to fit a bigger battery
3. You can't do mods to the engine for the soul purpose of fitting a bigger battery.. like removing the lift tabs or something like that
4. The battery must be restrained in some way, shape or form..

I guess replacing the factory tray with something bigger or more substantial is OK as long as its in the same spot. Which is good 'cos ours is a chinese food container and I've been wanting to replace it for ages now
ripped
lol at blackice... hope it wasn't in one of those cardboard/paper chinese food containers cos you'll only be able to fit in a 6v torch battery in those things hahaha.

oh well, mine's legal then!
BlackIce
Well the factory battery was about the size of two jetski batteries..
