Whats the general consensus for SPL mic options/preferences. Can we form a list of <$1000 setups?
Thanks,
Andrew

Andu,
Mate the best (cheapest) option by far is to bludge one off a store near you, once you have worked out who has one, go around there a bit, shoot the sh$t with them, buy stuff there, ask to borrow it.
If no stores near you have one then I dunno.

Thats what sets our scores appart from US/Euro scores.... they are serious have their own test setups, here we are all just bludgers lol
The mic doesn't need to be terribly accurate against other meters, just needs to be accurate against itself.

whats the go with it, it outputs the SPL reading as a voltage for reading with a voltmeter??? for $1200 they can't even afford to put in a LCD screen. personal SPL meter is seeming less and less like a viable option.

Its not much more to add your own voltmetre ($20 max), the kriss is the best option.

all you do is add a dmm onto it, if you get one with a rs32 port you can get the readout in real time onto your computer graphing it ect as for the accuracy of it icebreaker had his tested on it and got 146.6 then had it tested on freeways mic and got .1db higher or lower i cant remember
what does a termlab go for these days
cheers

there was an spl meter in issue 3 of auto salon mag as part of an article that Craig Handley was doing on SPL. It only have whole number SPL (no decimal places) and was half din size so could be mounted in dash. It was priced at $699 so well within budget. Can't remember the brand though - something starting with a C though - I'll check it tonight.

that's the one I was thinking about. It's made by Audiocontrol and info on it can be found at www.customcar.com.au. I guess it doesn't have decimals but it's still a lot more accurate than cheapo hand held meters.

How much was this SPL meter?
wasn't CAA going to use membership contributes to buy a SPL meter for every State to use, distrubuted by CAA State rep's???
anyways how much is this one, can Marc organise a group-buy for all interested parties??

this one costs $699. I think the ones that CAA were going to provide were going to be leased to stores as part of the new SQ comp and would need to be full RTA's and these ones only do SPL, not RTA stuff so they aren't really suitable.

if you think you got it bad, my town only got the software but no mic. they only get it back off the people they lease it to for the three or four car shows we get per year. the nearest rta? 980 km east. how the f_ck am i 'spose to do testing without the only install shop knowing what i'm up to? can't afford an rta/mic just for me. have just blown arond 2000 bucks on an amp, and vanette would choke me if she found out i bought an spl metre.

AudioControl Epic 150 Press Release:
http://www.audiocontrol.com/news/Epic150_3-01.htmTaken from that page:
The Epicenter circuitry has been proven to increases the SPL output of many systems anywhere from 3 to 12 dB!
Review:
http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/AUDEPIC150Taken from the review:
The new EPIC-150 utilizes The Epicenter's patented bass restoration circuitry which actually adds lower octaves of bass to any performance auto sound system. In addition, there is also Para-Bass equalization, which allows for fine-tuning of the bass response to your specific vehicle. The net result is more bass.
Pass me a grain of salt please
