How many ppl are interested in paying a membership to have a TASSIE SPL RTA for exclusive CAA Members and Hold similar events to the SQ ran by TASASCA, but more emphasis around SPL. We currently have no SPL scene here and at the recent Competition out of 36 cars to my knowledge there were only 2 cars that were there purly for SPL.

~What should we do about power and sub classes?
~Should we do what the rest of the country are doing and have Street, Super Street ect.
~OR should we stick with the 1, 2, 3+ sub classes, untill more ppl are interested and we can run more divisions?

We will also have a little backing from Treo Engineering hopefully with help with a RTA but I cannot do everyhting myself

What do you say boyz

Hopefully we can have a reasonable SPL scene here in TAZ and ppl from Melbourne wuld actually travel across the water to enter!!

Thanks Damon

I'd split it up into 3 categories

Mini street - This is either One twelve or two tens.

Street 1-2 - Two twelves, or one 15

Super Street 1-8 - This is for Dual 15's and more than 2 woofer systems.

I reccon those categories would be evenly spaced.

Damon, as i said in the other forum i would be more than happy to pay a membership etc if we could use a proper RTA which gave accurate readings. I spoke to Paul the other night and he was so pissed off that they weren't measuring SPL as a competition thing and left it so late in the day.. he was gonna ask for his money back on the day i think... same with another guy that had a pulsar q.. i reckon they wouldn't mind paying to use a PROPERLY tuned RTA

Tim,
icebreaker
best to just have street 1-2, 3-4 and super street.

then if cars with 5+ turn up, they are in a category of their own.

S and SS 1-2/3-4 covers just about everything.

and leaves ppl with smaller subs seperate to those with 15's.

But IMO... if you should be trying to help TASASCA not ***** about it, see if you can do the SPL in conjunction with them, one less thing for them to organise, but advertising of events is taken care of, and people will be coming to an event anyway..

That covers 3 events a year. Then do other events.

I must say though, i've had a chat to a few ppl in hobart, and i can't beleive comments that stores have made... can't get amps over 1000W RMS... SPL is a waste of time.. signs that tassie is still stuck in the dark ages, with narrow minded comments like these..
bassmekanik
i will be in for supporting a decent RTA for us CAA members in tassie i want true readings and in decimal places of what systems can do if you askm me the meter was about 10 db down or there abouts i can't wait for a good comp like the devonport one or at least on where there is a good meter that can read spl my setup is for daily driving but it is capable with SPL but 129 is a joke.
any help for funding for a good meter for tassie members will be helped by me to my best potential i also belive that i might be able to drum up some sponsorship for a meter too.
Bodyjar
I don't think you'll be able to run dB drag classes like those mentioned, due to it not being a dB Drag?

I'd suggest having the cone area classes like most of the comps up here do.

A - 1x12", 2x10"
B - 2x12", 3x10", 1x15"
C - 3x12", 4x10", 2x15"
D - more than above...
lancer guy
count me in. sounds like a good idea to get an RTA, problem is it is still a pretty huge thing to purchase so will need some pretty big contributions to get it in the next couple of years. I reckon the best option would be to fundraise for one.
Jazza
Sponsorship would be another way to go but if you wanted sponsors you would really have to make sure that people get behind those businesses that sponsor it and make it worth their while!
Big Fella
Definantly in for it fella's, running in conjunction with the existing comps sounds the go to me.
icebreaker
If there was a good meter in devonport.. Perhaps talk to someone there and find out some details, about who's meter it was, and whether someone can organise a few more SPL days. ie. Autobarn hobart/Launceston/etc,etc
Earthquake
Autobarn Burnie/Devonport own the accurate RTA but comps are held at very short notice, Hobart Autobarn have sold their RTA and Car Accessories have a 170dB RTA but dunno if they want to hold comps, well they should with their car as a Extreme 1 woofer system.
Earthquake
OKAY, who wants to contact in person Autobarn Launceston and Burnie and Car Accesorie Installs, and I'll do Autobarn and Supercheap down here!!
Big Fella
Autobarn launceston is trying to organise something as we speak, only problem is location, woolworths carpark over the road might not be available anymore due to 7 day trading... but we'll see. Car Accessory installs someone else will have to check out, I work pretty much the whole time its open. Also, earthquake, do you know if supercheap up here in launy has a decent meter? nice bodykit by the way, it'd look phat as with a set of 17's.
later
Earthquake
I dont know if Supercheap does have a RTA, but competing with Autobarn, I think they'd be interested in the respect gained by holding or assisting events!!

I'm currently tossing up between these sets of rims!

I cant uplaod the others as yet
Jazza
Damon sorry to be a pain but can you check your PM ive been trying to get hold of you for 2 days
thanks

i have said time and time again, i will advertise for businesses (ie stickers on car do work to advertise their business) if there is something in it for me... in this case a decent SPL meter
personally i would go into car accessory installs and ask them to hold a comp, but they are a bit of a bunch of tossers.. well besides adrian (part owner) and this new guy but we would need decent backup... but like if they were to do it i would be more than happy to hand pamphlets around advertise their business .. it would be a benefit for them

its not as if ive got anything better to do.. nobody will employ me!
bassmekanik
i would be happy to have stickers on my car for addvertising and i might go to car accesory instals soon and propose a comp to adrian.
i prolly can do a letterbox drop with leaflets too
bassmekanik
are you out of a job now tim or not classing pizzas as a job?

nahh still doing the domino's run, but cos its casual 1 week i do 20+ hours the next i do 8 hours

ive been looking for full time job since about august last year, problem.. too old, too young, not enough experience, no qualifications etc

i sent an application off to that HIGH IQ place as i don't care anymore if i have to go interstate.. all i care about is having money to spend on my car.. and it gets more expensive everyday

i knocked back uni to work for the next coupla years so i can get some dough, have a nice car and get some 'real world' experience

Hmmmmm me thinks I will buy SPL RTA'

would you guys pay $5 each time we use it? to pay it off?

then it'll be free?
bassmekanik
i would pay $20 per comp if it is kept calibrated.
the more comps the better because if you have enough $10 a competitor from CAA and othere (if we want to have them) $20 each.
Earthquake
hmmm I think it cul almost pay it self off in year holding 3-6 comp's or informal comp's/CAA meetings. I wouldn't mind taking it up to Lonny for you guys to use and maybe a annual Membership to keep the RTA calibrated.

It is fair enough saying we can use "Car Acessory INstalls" RTA, but after spending $2.5k on a RTA I guess they would spend the $50 each time to get it calibrated, but we all know what Happen to "The Radio Clinic" they spent all the money on a RTA and couldn't keep up the ongoing expenses!!

what max dB would we need 170dB??

or just 150dB?
Rina
Guys, Im really disapointed that the one and only organisation in Tassie is being totally bagged out by the tasmanians that use its service.

Take a step back and read your posts, i know your upset about the facilities available at the moment. But at least we already have somthing to work with .
TASASCA has never been huge on SPL, but always have room for it on the day ...
Auto barn seem to be the dudes leading the way with SPL .
So if your more interested in SPL , talk with Launie Auto Barn.
Rather than going and starting a 3rd event with your own equipment and probably starting an oversupply of activities.

Im over and out , im leaving the state so this **** shouldnt bother me ... but i cant help but be disapointed by some of the comments.
Earthquake
Rina I was always happy with the TASASCA runnings but as you know and we have learned they are a predominate SQ organisation running SPL as a "FUN" event, one of the TASASCA officials said why did I bother coming if I wasn't going in SQ, that comment has conjured up my own upsumptions that TASASCA chooses not to run serious SPL events because they choose not to. As ppl have said Autobarn do run SPL comps but they are unable to run such comps as freely as they once were due to 7-day trading. Their events are informal and spare of the moment comps. I want to establish a SPL scene here in TAS, the rate we're going waiting for TASASCA to take SPL seriously we will never have such scene!

$0.02
bassmekanik
i belive that the spl scene would be alot stronger it we and tasasca could organise some real comps around here and as for a place to hold it why not try to hire a school or public oval.
i know that we would have to sign a big ass release form to accept all liability for all our onw actions.
although i am sure that competitors would not mind doing that for the sake of a good spl scene in tassie and if ovals or that sort of stuff doesn't work why not invase the shoping center car parks around the place on sundays. that last one with the permission of the manager of the centers.
Earthquake
Public liabilty is an absolute ASSHOLE of a concept, We need to look into it more, like at our Golf Range we only pay $300 a year for public liabilty, yes $300 and that is for ppl swinging bloody golf clubs round!!

Our event will only have ppl walking round
bassmekanik
it still may be a good idea if auto barn can do it we should be able to with help from the likes of some other stores around here
Earthquake
actually my post didn;t make a huge amount of sense, public liability for an event such as ours would attract at least $1000+ public liabilty!!

For the short term lets get Autobarn involved and get a smallish SPL calander going, then we can go from there, if we cna gernerate enough interest I will buy a RTA!
bassmekanik
sounds good i am willing to help organise in launnie and all in my free time (when i am not at tafe)
Big Fella
Autobarn Launy supposedly organised the SPL comp, not set in concrete though, its proposed in 3-4 weeks on the sunday. I will let everyone know bout any progress I hear of.
Jazza
I cant say where atm cause i havent checked it over but.....

My dad is the president of a sporting team (that i play in) and im sure he wouldnt mind lending us the keys... there is a big car park a bar and clubrooms it is a gravel car park and we couldnt park on the grass beacuse it would screw the ground too much but i could look into it and it would probably be a fee of 100 or so dollars. A condition would have to be if people decided to be retarded in the car park though the police would be called. (all cars would have to be registered vehicles). If we spent a bit of money of the bar these prices could get cheapers and cheaper...

just a thought...

-Jarrod
Earthquake
Sounds promising!!

But can we hold a State SPL event there?

what club is it?
Jazza
Yeah i reckon we could hold as many people that could fit in there.. but as i said no promises because i havent even asked dad yet.

Its metro soccer club btw... but as i said no guarentees

- Jarrod
Earthquake
OKAY, Find out what he requires, ie. cash? What days we can hold events and other details ect.?

And what is the status on AUTOBARN Lonny?
eMitch
Hi Guys... You probably haven't heard from me before, so i thought that i'd chip in.

I, like others that I know, would like to see a greater scene in Tasmania. I have taken note of the guy with the idea of holding gatherings in an area managed by his father, but i am also conscious of public liablity issues, as i work in a law firm down in Hobart.

So what i am thinkin is that upon entry, everyone could sign a disclaimer releasing the organisers of any liability. I don't know if this can be done, but i'll ask my boss tomorrow and find out.

This would be a good way to get around this trick issue!

Let me know what you think.
Jazza
Hey cool emitch thanks for your input and your help!! The disclaimer would be easy to do beacuse there is only one entrance and one exit. the only problem would be that the soccer season has just started so it would only (most likely) be between about october-feburary that we could hold anything there.

Otherwise maybe the D.E.C carpark would be availible or another carpark similar

A disclaimer would be helpful, but they are not totally watertight when it comes to public liability claims (eg. would not cover gross negligence etc.). By all means you should have everyone sign a disclaimer, but consider it a supplement rather than a replacement for public liability insurance. ie. you will still need insurance.
Valkyrie
Hey everyone,
I'm glad (and proud) to see all Tassie members getting excited and banding together.

eMitch, you're on the right path, your help would be appreciated.

One thing I will say guys, and I don't think I REALLY need to (since it has already stopped). But please stop the slagging of ANY other Tassie Car Sound events and/or clubs. It does NOT get us anywhere, and if you want to voice you opinion, make something you prefer happen, rather than bag people for not doing it how you would like to see it done.

But I'm really glad to see a bigger number of members in Tassie. We are slowly growing, and that's good to see. I will try and organise a "meet and greet" event in the coming weeks, but gimme time, I've just started a new job.

Hey ppls

Just thought I'd update you on the situation, and use this to vent my anger at the state of of public liability insurance!

I didn't have to work today (too big a night last night...) so I couldn't talk to my boss about the disclaimer. I agree with the above point rasied, namely, that a disclaimer will not cover gross negligence. However, and sorry for the law talk, If it is clear upon entry that no liability will be assumed by the organisers, then the same will not be held liable. If there is a fee for entering this would be better, as then you have a legally binding contract, of which the disclaimer would become a term of the same. I'm going to follow up on this idea.

Secondly, might I just say, that, as a group of likeminded people, it would be sad to see that if there were enough people with some initiative to organise an event due to the incapableness of others, and there was a small incident, that others could suffer as a result. I mean really, if i fell over, say, a pole at such an event, i would never consider suing. This isn't America, and it's time that people took greater responsibility for their own actions.

Chat to the boss next Tuesday, sorry 'bout the wait, however he's gone away for the weekend (typical lawyer) and won't be back until then.

Finally, it would be great to see all of us formulate something that the actual competitors enjoy! I've never met anyone that I see on this forum, but I hope to in the future! Cheers...
Earthquake
Where is RINA when you need her???

She could tell us the situation with public liablity when the comps were held at the Casino!!

The Derwent Entertainment Carpark (spelling looks horribly wrong center will be perfect )
beacuse they almost never have events there and we can structure around their events calander?

Maybe i we can orgainse a big enough event it could be inside and mainland cars would actually want to travel down for our events!!

we can aim high......cant we??
bassmekanik
inside would be awesome rain hail or shine and we can keep the cars clean only prob would be when we got flats we need to start the car and o bet the would not like that at all
lancer guy
Now if only we could run an auto salon type thing inside at the DEC

I'll be up for anything as long as I'm not working - even thinking of making a couple of trips to the mainland this year for spl comps (although I still need to finish a car that will atleast stand a chance in a mainland comp).
Earthquake
Man fumes are no problem, I done a few BMX freestyle demos at the MOTO X, and you can imagine how much fumes would build up in a 21 heat moto ross race!!

And Ian I will also like to go to the Mainland, and we will be competing in the same class "STREET A", so we'll talk soon

P.S- I'm galssing my boot on MONDAY
bassmekanik
good luck with the glass and i was talking about stains on the floor but if we did we would be responsible for the clean up i supose
Big Fella
Hey boys, earthquake, exactly how are you glassing your boot? u using pespex or what and how are you positioning it and stuff? if that makes sense at all. As for autobarn, I havent had a chance to get in there this week with work and all but I will find out the details asap. Getting sick of the lancer myself so i by the end of the year, Mitsubishi FTO here I come! They cost like 2 G's more than a lancer and they're a sh**load nicer and more power! Anything happening with cruises n stuff in the near future????
bassmekanik
i was just at auto barn and the comp is said to be at wollies at a unknown date
Jazza
Its good to see everyone is so keen aye!

lets just hope words get put into action and we are responsible for a huge SPL scene in Tassie
Earthquake
I will be fibre-glassing the spare tyre well and have made a custom trim panel to glass up onto.

I have heaps of pics but My picturetrail account has expired

Get the guys from Autobarn orgainised and pressure for a date, due to Southern Tasssie dude's needing notice to get up there!
bassmekanik
they are only saying they are organising it but no dates are final YET but there wikk be one before easter some time i bet.
Earthquake
Good work boys!!!
