Ok it says all woofers 8inch sand bigger will be counted, now what happens to all the people with 8inch midbass drivers upfront? how do they manage to enter comps?
Im looking at using an 8inch sub in a box upfront, what will this do class wise?
also a custom centre console what happenbed there?
custom center console can be 2 cubic foot but not allowed in street only SS.
8" upfront will not count nor 8" mid basses in the doors as you wont use them (eg disconect the amp as u want all the current to your sub amps anyway)
Technically if they are 8" and running you can be DSQ but if they are not running you are fine.

I think this particular rule should be at the judges discression.. If it is disconnected, I'm sure it would be ok..
A custom console is legal (dBDrag rules) if it is (A) Displaces less than 2 cu/ft total.
(B) A factory console is not available for your model car..

that's one question I was going to ask, as I have 8's in the doors too.
For SPL I'll use a switch on the remote line, after the headunit to switch between the entire system, the system without subs and of course subs only.
So now I'm wondering,
Would I need a relay to do this? or simply a good one channel in, three channel out switch?

I think this rule clears it up.
2-2 All of the woofers in a vehicle (8 inches and larger) will be counted when determining what class a competitor should compete in.
So basically if they are there they will be counted. Looks like you may have to remove them from the car before the comp.

Would most judges show a bit of moral judgement and disregard them anyway - or is it that picky when determining classes??

The rules are there in black and white and i don't think it would be fair to bend the rules in this case. just because they are in the front of the car doesn't mean they can't be used for bass. This isn't a new rule and any SPL competitior should be aware of it so I can't see ignorance being an excuse either.
I think if we want to be serious we need to stick to all the rules to make a level playing field no matter how sill we think they are.

That's cool - It's just in the past at some events I've had to remove them and others I haven't - I disconnect the front stage amp anyway. Most judges can see that the RCA's run direct into the sub amp and the F/S amp hasn't got a signal source!
I've got no prob's either way - leave them in/take them out - it's just another part of preparation in setting up the car for an event!

disconnecting them doesn't make it "legal" as "token woofers" are not allowed either,
but i think most judges, once shown that they are disconnected, will allow you to leave them there.
in the end, removing them is teh right thing to do, and that way, there's no risk

When you split the remote wire to the FS amp just add a switch you can use to turn the FS amp on and off
most 8" woofers on the market under the db drag definition of a 8" driver are not classified as 8"s. eh the TR 8" is 7 1/2"s or somthign IIRC from middle of the surround to middle of the surround so technically not even a 8" under the rules. Simply Don't worry too much I am running dual 8"s in each door and will still be running in SPL comps with my SQ system

speaking of 8" subs... hows 147.5dB with a single 8" sub? what were we doing wrong here with the 8" comp... oh thats right no one was using an L7

wouldnt the cones moving with the bass in the cabin increase spl anyway?
i'm sure that when i was carrying a mates 15's to a comp one day in the back of my car, they wernt hooked up or anything but my subs sounded a hellavalot louder

yeah, but it goes by the marketed diameter, not the effective piston diameter.
i tried to pull this trick with the 13W7, as it's effective piston diameter is ~12" due to the large surround.

was your mate's 15 in a box? If it was the volume of his sub box would have reduced the effective size of your cabin and this will make your subs sound louder (I heard somewhere that halving your cabin size will increase dB by 3).
