Its a little complicated now.
i.e. Stock A ur allowed 2 x 10" squares but not 2 x 12" squares, but would be allowed 1 x 15" square because thats under the 2 x 12" round cone area equivelent.
And the same for Stock B, 4 x 10" squares, 3 x 12" squares, 2 x 15" square but not 4 x 12" squares.
I think either allow 12" squares or convert to a completely cone area based competition otherwise its become a bit complicated which is exactly what CAAdB was against to start with.

QUOTE
Stock A
Restricted to:
2 x 10", or
2 x 12", or
1 x 15"
Restricted to maximum 15" subwoofer diameter or 15" equivalent cone area
2 x 12" have more equivalent cone area then a 15" thus making even 2 x 12" round subs illegal. Am I misinterpreting the rules?

yeah i think so,
the equivalent size refers to weird shaped woofers, like hex ones, as they have inconsistent diameter.
in the end, a high excursion 12" round woofer will move more air than a 12" square. as the squares don't have huge xmax.

I did suggest a nice idea that defines what they mean by "equivalent cone area" and allowed square 12" subs as they only really have the equivalent cone area as a 13.5" sub, not a 15" sub.. But the cone area of a square 15" sub is more like an 18" round sub, so a single 15" square would not be allowed..
But I guess it was considered to be too complicated..

BassA, in the end it doens't matter,
compare the likes of a DD9515/RE XXX 15"/Brahma 15"/Inhuman 15"/Shocker
to an 15L7,
what the L7 gains in surface area, the others make up for with Xmax, and power handling.

And the likes of the above woofers come in an option of quad coils which are allowed in Stock class, an advantage which the Kicker L7's don't have.
15" square - 225 sq in
2 x 12" rounds - 114 * 2 = 228 sq in
18" round - 255 sq in.
so a single 15" square sub is still less cone area then 2 round 12" subs so would still be allowed in Stock A class... not that a 15" INHUMAN, DD9515, Brahma, or RE XXX wouldn't all eat the 15" Kicker for lunch... I don't see why L7's should be singled out!

Will attemp to simplify and clarify this ruling MUCH later tonight when I return.
Revision 4 will be posted tomorrow.
