Hey all i just have a querey about my sub its a Kicker F15C Freeair 15" sub and in the specs it says:
Watts SMAX = (Freeair) 300
Watts SMAX = (Enclosure) 500
What does SMAX mean is it the same as MAX?
and do u think i could maybe put a bit more power than that thorugh it for music??
At the moment im only puttin 300w through it.
Coz that doesnt seem like much for a 15" i dont think.
thanks

Look at the RMS power which is how much it can constantly take, also look at how much RMS your amp does. When listening to music I wouldn't power the sub more than it's RMS rating. Just cause it's a fifteen doesn't mean it's more powerful than a twelve or a ten!

I think since their is 2 different power ratings and the higher one is for an enclosure that those figures are the mechanical power handling... like they'll be bumpin' x-max with that much power in free-air but they'll have more accoustic suspension in the enclosure so will take more power to reach x-max. thats my guess

remember though, that in reality the more power u feed into a sub neccesarily doesnt equate to the more volume.
i've heard subs being fed with 250watts that sound much nicer just as loud than those subs that are handling 350watts for instance
u must look at sensitivity, the poewr handing and also the sub itself can make a huge difference over how loud it goes.
its not all about how much power they can handle

kickers don't handle much power at all. if you want the best, get shocker audio

L7, Schmell 7,

what would be better for the money?
The main problem with the the L7's is that they aren't sensitive enough, so they take more power to get movin.
2 kilowatts of power is very expensive. Yea you may save $400 with the ickers but u'll have to spend $400 on a bigger amp

Kicker is OK, Shocker is OK, but Weapon and I know whats best!
I put one 15 into a Lancer today running off a D2 that will scare all the S1-2 boys! Eight nasty cubes with 800cm of port tuned to 45Hz, cover your ears.
