Thats a blody crazy cone/coil structure if i can hold the weight of that driver... it looks like it would be about 15kg's. Dont look totaly sexy but do look tough as bulls balls.

BIGW
Feb 23 2003, 02:12 AM
wayyyyyy more than 15kgs shipping weight is about 70pd per sub inc the container from mem i think i think there a sexy sub, hell i wouldnt mind a trio of 18's in the back heh

Results from these subs???
A lot of companies throw together big, heavy subs but where are the numbers?? Big coils, thick top plates and heavy magnets do not guarantee performance.

Actually they have had quite good results in dB Drag... and primarily an SQ sub...
XXX is a more SQ sub IIRC and done very very well in its job.
Made By Resonate engineering which is a company along the lines of DD, Beyond Audio, Treo and alike which is more of a "specialist" sub company.
Wouldn't mind a couple 18"s to play with
and wait for the PSI from Beyond people. Will change the world of SPL IMO. atm the 18" is 160lbs of pure bass, and if the PSI gen1 is anything to go by able to hold its own in SQ aswell

boston used to demo there pro subs by putting the sub mag down on the ground and then stepping on the cone and balencing on one foot (so all there body weight is on it)
this was also done in one aussie car audio mag and then they tested the sub and it was perfect

the mags on the 99's series are about 400oz, thats just the magnet! does motor structure include basket, coils spider ect?
DD Phil
Feb 24 2003, 10:57 PM
The 99 series have 450 ounce magnets!!
The motor also includes the top and back plates which are made of steel and are considerably heavier than the ceramic magnet.
When a company boasts about motor weight, they are trying to disguise the lack of magnet weight.
It is the magnet weight that ultimately governs motor strength.

the motor weighs approx 160 lbs without the magnets(top and back plate) I am getting them to shave a bit off to lose weight but its not looking good for that six spoke basket or the installer.
about the PSI genII
so a 160 pounds of Motor no magnets is that to make up for lack of magnet weight
and depends on the type of magnet some have higher mass/strength ratios than others like Neodymium Magnets.
http://www3.sk.sympatico.ca/hebig1/index2.html a good post on the different types of magnets.

As well as the magnet material, magnet dimensions (ie wider magnets are generally better than taller ones), dimensions/material of the top plate, back plate, amount of coil in the gap etc..
(not just magnet weight..)

All things being equal, with all of the motor geoometry optimised, the magnet is the deciding factor in motor strength.

haha that top one looks a bit too industrial, and krase didntr you have to cute a 21" hole for an 18" psi and 18" for a 15"because of such a large toplate?

I remember a guy from JBL standing in a cone for a power series or something like that sub, he was demonstrating to us (sales team in car audio store) the strength of this new db drag 12" woofer they had just released...
These types of things must need 240volts to move!
Dr DJ Choss

Actually on the subject of 240 volt being piped into woofers, I was talking to John Bowe at a show, he was the guy who had the Rockford equipped mini panel van a few years ago, anyway, just for a laugh one night he hooked a Cerwin Vega Stroker up to the wall: yes, 2400 watts @ 50hz of domestic heater and tv power. Believe it or not the thing worked!
Don't try these life threatening experiments at home kiddies, John's a professional lunatic. The mini is only part of the evidence...

Rippedskin - LOL you can tell the second one is a shocker just by looking at how it has been glued together.. Won't have to worry about the spider becoming unglued on that one.

these drivers tune smiliarly to a brahma, even though the Fs is nearly 10Hz higher, they still hit low!
from what i can tell, they are more refined than the brahma, and although their xmax is larger, it's not linear.
