Full Version: what about microphone placement?

Well nothing was mentioned in the rules about it. but with the current rule book trend maybe we should just do it to dB-Drag placement rounded off to its metric equivelent? But heres some food for thought anyways.

Port Wars - The microphone may be placed anywhere inside the vehicle or the speaker enclosure with the following exception. Microphone may not be placed anywhere that may cause it to be damaged. The USACI globe must be on the microphone at all times.

SPLEnduro - Mic Placement--Dead Center, BELOW rear view mirror, 3" above dash, 1/2 off Glass

dB-Drag Racing - The long arm of the mic jig should be horizontal and parallel to the ground. The vertical part of the mic jig should be perpendicular (straight up) with respect to the ground. At this point, you have positioned the mic horizontally and vertically. The final step is to place the tip of the mic capsule 1 inch away from the windshield. Without moving the placement of the mic, rotate the bottom of the jig until the 1" bumper touches the glass. At this point, the short leg of the jig should be parallel to the glass. Then, carefully slide the mic towards the glass until it is flush with the mic jig

The new system does not use the microphone jig, and actually now has a suction cup that attaches to the windscreen.

Until I have the mic in my hands (in the next few days) I cannot really make any ruling on this.
I would keep the same position as db drag IMO
Marc
It will be the same as dB Drag.....but where is that with the new mics ?

wont we get in twuble again if we 'copy' the rules of db drags? even if it just for consistancy

maybe we should have it directly above the steering wheel?? ie: measure from drivers perspective
