Being the stingy prick that I am
I make my own amps. Sofare I'd say a kilowatt is within my expertese so to speak which is more than enough to almost stall my car.
Can I compete with them if I go through with it?

BTW - Will be completing a 4x130w rms (4 x 250w @2 ohms) within a few weeks. pics for sure

Depends which comp and which class...

dB Drag street class it isnt allowed, i'm not even sure about SS and extreme?

Dont think there is any rule against them in CAAdB yet?
Soundwerks
The rule to look out for is the one stating that the equipment used must be commercially available.

Thats another issue, what if he is to build 10 of them, and sell them, and make himself available to produce them should people want them..... isn't that then "commercially" available?

I rekon if its a dude who builds his own amps the judges *should* turn a blind eye, doesnt mean they will though... Aslong as the guy isnt like a full on pro builder and just does it as a hobby and isnt in the electronics business that is.

you could always try n find a dead V12 or sumthin, buy it for $20.00, gut it and then put ur own stuff in

Further to this, once the [CAAdB] season has commenced, it is possible a "black list" will be compiled to ensure fair competition to all competitors. This will apply to STOCK classes only.

I think the commercially available rule in dB Drag has more depth and eratta has been issued in reguards to it.. I believe the thing has to be available thru retailers for atleast 3 months, and atleast 200 of the unit has to have been made. There was a lot of talk about the PHD3 in relation to this prior to worlds.. and I think it only just scraped in.

Ala the Aussie homologation rules that gave us such monsters as the Monaro 350, Phase 3 GTHO and A9X.

I'm not that fussed on competing but it would be an added bonus to get some regcognision for making my own gear. Buy dead amps might be a good idea also.... it is cheeky but thats me
Thanks for ur help
Custom amps are fun.

I've been building & designing different amps for 12 years now.
Fr0st: If you need any parts, or help etc. let me know.

I've been working on an driver stage for 45,000Watts RMS
I have just had 3-phase brought into my workshop, and I can draw 63Amps from it.

Can't wait to load up the power grid !!
might need to borrow that 45,000wrms for testing with the civic one day mike

Thats the plan.
I'm using two of the 30cm finned ones (10cm wide) used back to back. It'll probly look comercial enuff.... but I'd rather have my amps heard and not seen.
hardon
There would have to be some legal jargon pertaining to a quantity for it to be classed as commercially available - just with all this talk of legal action of recent times and stuff
lancer guy
If the amps need to be commercially available perhaps after testing frost you can start selling them. If the figures are there and the price is right I'd consider them.
