Not unless you drive whilst outside of your car
Nah, it must be in OEM location...

Most guys run a remote control outside the car and unpause it or crank the system and switch it off till ready to go.
Others burn a cd with the right tone on it and xxx seconds of silence beforehand.
I just thought - could you run an extension cord with a switch on the end for the ignition sense into the head unit?
So set the car up, turn the volume up, flick the switch so the deck thinks the ignition key is off so the deck swithes off, and run the lead outside the car till the 30 seconds start.....
Then flick the ignition switch outside the car, let the burp go and then switch it off again and ride out the rest of the 30 sec's....
The only thing is it might be against certain dB formats rules....

Yes.. Unfortunately, it has been asked on the dBdrag forums and it is against the rules.. (which is a bit of a silly rule IMO)
Fortunately CAAdB allows you to run external headunits..

I competed at ShowOff last year with a friend and we ran the head unit externally with an extension loom.
We won the street 3-4 class we no disputes.

It also might come down to the head judges discression - he has the final say in the end anyway.

That was dB Drags yeah?
But it wasn't until MAS 2002 that Angelo started to make competitors, adhere to the rules.
As there was atleast one car at show off, in S1-2 with no back seats, and the box went from the back of the boot to the back of the front seats. And that had been competing in S1-2 up until MAS.
The reason I wanted to have the headunit outside of the car, was because it skips like a mofo. Might have to work on the mounting of it, to see if i can minimize it in some way.
Good to see CAAdB will allow headunit outside. I don't think its fair for a competitor who may have a crappy deck that skips heaps, have to go out and buy another headunit that doesn't skip.

*had to go and buy a non-skipping, remote ready HU and buy a remote with pause button for dB Drag's* *shrugs*. Price one pays I guess
BTW, dB Drag rules say Street cars must have the source unit in OEM location, and no external burp buttons allowed.

Yeah i agree...
the headunit "should" be allowed outside the car in all classes... i personally can't see any SPL increases occuring if this was done...
plus it saves the $$$ on a remote/more expensive deck and also saves hearing!
