Ok well being the cheap bastard that i am, i was was wondering whether it would be possible to glue 2 sheets of 9mm MDF together so that i have 18mm MDF?? will this be just as strong as normal 18mm MDF?? The reason i ask is cuz i have like 10 sheets of 1200x900 9mm MDF lying around in the garage an wanna make use of it

they might rattle ... so use lot's of glue .. and alos screw then together just get screw that are only like 12 mill

but if its glued properly there shudnt be any problems with more flex than a sheet of 18mm would have right??

acctualy that might work well u know flex might be a little less than a 18mm piece because of the glue in between

i am no wood work expert but it is just laminating the two sheets togeather and I carn't see a problem with it.

You may experience some splitting tho if not pre drilled correctly for the screws to hold it togeather(the box that is not the two sheets)

Go one better, use a layer of fiberglass in between

Put it on a flat surface, put a few bricks on top, and when it sets, should be nice and strong

no problem at all.... like said as long as you fix them together correctly then it'll be just as strong as 18mm.... if anything stronger(higher glue ratio)... just the end fixing will be weak... so i suggest glue block on the internal of the corners.... use clamp with the glue blocks not screws to hold the box together while the PVA sets.. or even screw and glue the blocks into place from the inside.... but dont screw into the ends....

might seal it once finished with FG not in between the layers use PVA for this or i would even use "urea formaldehyde" (not sure on the spelling) but that’s cause i can get me hands on it easy... PVA will work just as good.... NO L/NAILS

my advise would be buy the 18mm... allot quicker,easier and less work... but give it ago since you have it already

Better still, use two sheets of 18mm together.
