JBL P1020
10" SVC
400w-1600w power handling
$399

JBL P1220
12" SVC
400w-1600w power handling
$599

Schneider SPL-12DV
12" DVC
500w max
$???

What are your thoughts on these subs.
I am leaning towards the P1020 but if there is anyone out there who can nudge me towards the others, I might reconsider them..
Also anyone know the price of the Schneider SPL-12DV..
Bodyjar
Why you restricting your choices to those subs for?
BlackIce
All I could extract from Schneider's website:

< SPL-12DV >
30cm (12") Subwoofer

Features:
500 Watts Power Handling.
50mm Dual Voice Coil with Dual 50oz Magnet.
Polypropylene Cone with Large Rubber Butyl Surround.
Aluminium Cast Basket.
Recommended Sealed Enclosure: 34 litres.

Knowing Schneider products its sure to be pretty well priced (~$200 I'm guessing). I've seen them, never used one or heard them tho. Being DVC will make it more versatile than the SVC's.. But I've also seen good numbers coming from JBL SVC subs.

But there's better SPL subs out there than all 3... unless your budget has limited you then either of the 12"s should serve you well

That's how I found out about the schneider subs, went to the site to check out a couple of their amps and decided to have a look around..I also like the PRO-DV12 the have.

I am not really restricted by budget, but I am looking for a good thumpy sub without the price tag capable of giving me a heart attack..
If I had a budget, it would probably be around $500 per sub(I want 2, but I don't want 15s)
$1000 for the sub amp/s(looking at Schneider SPA4000HC(2x540@2ohm)..
List your choices not limited to these three subs..I need more info..

Quantum 4 channel.. nice little amp. Just so happen to be using one as my interim amp just to get some DOOF into the car. 141dB on the new CAAdB termpro with a pair of 12"s driven off it .

Don't go forking out $1000 for one tho.. you can get them a fair whack cheaper than that. RRP is $900, and with some bargaining you'll get a decent discount off the price.

Slightly related: The local audio shop owner told me a story about a young fella who bought one of those Schneider subs. Stuck it in a pre-fab enclosure, inverted it to show off the frame and went cruisin' that night. It was wet, it was muddy, the sub wasnt bolted down and he had a plastic jerry can of fuel in the back. Lost control, sub slammed into the jerry can, petrol into voice coil vent, flames. It would seem they are NOT fuel or fire proof.

My local dealer has one SPA4000C left, they are about to stop selling Schneider, that's why I asked in another post if anyone knew any Schneider distro's. Back to the subject, he has one left at $740 but he has a few other interested parties and I don't have a derposit for him. But ~$900 ain't to bad for 2x540w@2ohm.

If you have $500 per sub, then I'd recomend the Kicker L5's/L7's... You should be able to pick up the L5's for about $400 from JBHifi. And they will kill any other sub in that price range...

If you're looking for amps around $1000, the Crossfire 1000D comes to mind, with 1000wrms@1ohm, but puts out a little more... Or the Cadence A7hc is it? about $1100 I think...

I am not really into kicker richie but I'll go and check them out, and Black Ice check pms pal..
Bodyjar
Well if you want to win, you have to be open to everything, there is no room for brand racism in SPL!!!

Max, put that Sony 12" in a big ported box and hook it up to a big amp like a 1507. You might be surprised what sort of results you will get...
BlackIce
unsecret_agent: I have checked my PM's and there's nothing from you

Resend it

Lancerman: That's the plan, 3 cuft box with 2 4" wide variable length ports. As for the amp, I was thinking a Jaycar 2x150(438 bridged), Just until I can find and afford a Schneider SPA4000HC(2x540@2ohms) and then I will get a type R 10" or 2.
BlackIce: Will do.
Bodyjar:Which subs are they, the EX, comps etc.
And I'm not brand racist. Just haven't heard much good about kicker.

Bodyjar was refering to the Kicker L5's and L7's. They are the square ones. They're not cheap but have a great reputation for big SPL because of their greater cone surface area compared to round subs...
i_am_maximo
Lancerman: Oh cool, I like those subs, and I can get em really cheap from JB macgregor, how much are the 1507s??
lancerman
They don't make 1507's anymore, but if you find one second hand it should be around $650-700, depending on condition. I think the could be bought about $900 new. Its rated at 1x900wrms @4ohms at 14.4v.

You'd be hard pressed to find another class A/B amp that puts out that much power at 4ohm, especially at the price.

I might not make it to MCS this weekend, but if you see Dave (323alpine) ask him if you can stick his 1507 for a run in your car.
i_am_maximo
My car is in the workshop again, but it's the engine & brakes this time, that's why I asked, might see if I can get a lift with someone else.
